Ashley Eckstein Shared The Story Behind Her ‘Constant’ Debate With Dave Filoni About Ahsoka And What She ‘Always Wanted’ From The Clone Wars

Fans of *Star Wars* will have new adventures to enjoy on Disney+ in 2025 with the release of *LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past*. The four-episode animated series features familiar voices from the franchise, including Ashley Eckstein, who has voiced Ahsoka Tano since the beginning of *The Clone Wars*. Eckstein recently spoke with TopMob about her hopes for the character on *Clone Wars* and her conversations with executive producer Dave Filoni.

With *LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy*, Ashley Eckstein returned to voice the character Ahsoka Tano for the first time since Rosario Dawson began playing her in live-action shows. Dave Filoni had assured Eckstein she would continue to voice Ahsoka in animated projects, making the call about *Rebuild the Galaxy* especially meaningful for her. However, this animated Ahsoka isn’t identical to the character audiences followed throughout *The Clone Wars*, where her circumstances became increasingly difficult.

During a conversation about the 2025 Her Universe Fashion Show, I asked Ashley Eckstein if the LEGO Ahsoka character would have more comedic moments compared to how Ahsoka developed in *Clone Wars*. Eckstein responded with a laugh and began to explain:

It’s a good question! I always hoped Ahsoka would have moments of genuine laughter, and I often discussed this with Dave Filoni. I’d frequently ask if she’d get a chance to laugh in each episode, since I tend to be very expressive. Dave jokingly called my enthusiasm my ‘cuteness,’ and before every recording session, he’d playfully tell me to ‘leave my cuteness at the door.’ I kept asking him why, and when Ahsoka would finally get to laugh.

Ahsoka Tano was left in a dark place after the events of the *Clone Wars* finale in 2020. She, Rex, and Maul were the only survivors of Order 66 from their ship, and she carried that trauma with her even into the *Star Wars Rebels* series. She’d put her playful “Snips” personality behind her. However, the story established in *Clone Wars* didn’t necessarily need to limit the possibilities for her character in *LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy*.

This series is genuinely funny. While the humor might not come directly from Ahsoka herself, her story is very true to the character and incredibly inspiring – it’s a story many people will connect with. It really feels like Ahsoka embodies qualities we all share. Even though the show is set in a distant galaxy, her experiences are relatable and will likely resonate with viewers.

Whether you find it amusing or not, Ashley Eckstein clearly still feels a strong connection to the character Ahsoka, even long after *The Clone Wars* ended. She’s shared thoughtful ideas about how the spirit of Ahsoka exists within everyone, and even sent a message to fans before the debut of the *Ahsoka* series starring Rosario Dawson. Almost twenty years after originally voicing the character, Eckstein continues to find new ways to bring Ahsoka Tano to life.
