Ashley Darby’s ‘Catastrophic’ Killing Me Softly Cover on Live TV Sparks Internet Fury
Real Housewives of Potomac star Ashley Darby’s recent Roberta Flack tribute failed to impress fans.
On Thursday, the 36-year-old former reality TV star, recently divorced in February, made an appearance on Fox 5 DC. During this visit, she paid tribute to the late Flack by performing her 1973 hit “Killing Me Softly With His Song.
According to a post on Instagram from the outlet, Darby’s performance was intended to showcase her debut exhibit at the iconic Mr. Henry’s in Southeast, Washington D.C., scheduled for this coming Saturday.
Fans openly expressed their disappointment in the poor performance, as one individual posted online, ‘It’s certainly a soft kill, alright.’
Another person likened Ashley’s delivery of the tune to ‘karaoke vibes.’

Someone else wrote that the performance was simply ‘terrible.’
Darby recently performed a song, which was done over a month following the death of renowned singer Roberta at the age of 88 in February.
A user on Instagram with the handle @6411niecy commented in a discussion, “Every time I see this post pop up on my feed, I can’t help but shudder. It would be great if someone could remove it.
‘I know Roberta has ear muffs on in heaven after this catastrophic performance.’
Additionally, there was a remark that implied: ‘She seemed to believe she was excelling, and that’s the level her performance ought to have remained at.’
A critical spectator commented, ‘The band seemed bewildered,’ accompanied by a series of laughter-through-tears emojis.
‘Who approved this?’ someone else demanded to know.
Another individual playfully remarked about a past reality TV star with a seemingly unsuccessful musical background, saying, “She learned a thing or two from Kim Zolciak.

In spite of criticism and negative feedback she received online for singing the popular tune out of key, Ashley attempted to perform it again on Saturday evening.
On a Sunday, she boldly posted clips from the performance, where she performed covers of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive,” Corinne Bailey Rae’s “Put Your Records On,” and Beyoncé’s “Work It Out” from 2002.
This year, she officially completed her divorce with Michal Darby, who she had filed for separation from back in November of last year.
After a span of over two years since my separation from my former spouse, I find myself embracing a new chapter in life, sharing it with our boys, Dean (age 5) and Dylan (age 4).
After announcing her separation, she left the house she lived in with Michael and started dating Luke Gulbranson from Summer House towards the end of 2022.
