Asher Keddie, 50, Shares Hope for Future Generations of Boys Raised by Feminists!

Asher Keddie shared that it brings her a sense of relief to observe the upcoming generation of young Australian males growing up with an awareness and understanding of gender and equality.

50-year-old singer from The Offspring, shares a nine-year-old son named Valentino with his spouse Vincent Fantauzzo. Additionally, Vincent has an older son named Luca, aged 14, from a past relationship.

At Marie Claire’s International Women’s Day event in Sydney on Thursday, she expressed optimism regarding the future of men.

She stated that she was equally as relieved, because it’s wonderful to see that conversations about gender and equality are not only happening among children, but also that young boys are actively participating in these discussions and demonstrating an understanding of the topic.

‘I’m feeling hopeful about it.’ 

In a comprehensive interview, when asked about her perspective on being a mother, Asher replied, “I’m not sure I can define the type of mother I am.

She mentioned: “I’m quite mindful as a mom, I acknowledge that. Maybe it indicates I grip a bit too firmly at times. I’m also striving to loosen up in this area.

‘Especially with the little one. I hold on quite tight to that little boy.’

The award-winning actor, who received a Gold Logie, also shared stories about overcoming rejection during her journey into acting.

She found rejection overwhelmingly tough, but terrible as it was, she quickly realized that by drawing upon her inner strength – a resilience she already possessed – she didn’t need to be consumed by the experience. Instead, she expressed that she had the power to rise above it.

I picked up quite quickly that I should allow rejections to flow past me without holding onto them. I never accepted them, instead choosing to move on. I soon understood that if I didn’t secure a role, then it simply wasn’t the one destined for me.

In 2023, Asher expressed concerns about aging since she was in the process of raising her youngest child, born in 2015 when she was 41 years old.

At that moment, I paid no attention to the fact that I seemed to be a relatively older mother. In truth, I felt just as I did back when I was 25 years old, as she shared with Stellar Magazine.

Previously, I was in good physical shape without any issues, but just a short while back, I made an imprudent calculation. I found myself considering, “Ah, I’m figuring out my age when he turns 18.

She continued by saying: ‘It strikes you that you may have spent most of your life, yet there are still young individuals around whom you wish to share their lives and witness their growth.’

‘It’s a bittersweet kind of thing, but most of it is sweet and most of it’s exciting.’

In the course of our conversation, I shared some insights about my decade-long journey with my artist spouse, Vincent, who is 48 years old. During this exchange, I couldn’t help but reminisce about how we first crossed paths and began our union.

She offered a peek at her family setup, which includes her husband, their son Valentino, and her stepson Luca, who is Vincent’s child from a past relationship.

She looks after various things when she gets home, yet our responsibilities at home are divided. As long as the children’s needs come first, everything manages to work smoothly, she explained.

Asher and Vincent tied the knot in a beach-side ceremony on Fiji’s Turtle Island in April 2014.

The couple went on to welcome a son of their own, Valentino, in March 2015.
