Ashanti reveals the meaning behind her and Nelly’s baby: ‘His dad named him with a lot of pride’
As a long-time fan of both Ashanti and Nelly, I am overjoyed to see them embarking on this beautiful new journey as parents. The naming of their son Kareem Kenkaide ‘KK’ Haynes holds a special significance, honoring Ashanti’s father and reflecting the generous, kind, and dignified qualities that every parent hopes for in their child.
On Wednesday, Ashanti disclosed the significance behind the name of her newly born son with husband Nelly, Kareem Kenkaide ‘KK’ Haynes.
43-year-old singer officially announced on Wednesday that her son was born to the rapper known for “Hot in Herre,” who is 49 years old, on July 18th.
As a die-hard admirer, I’d like to share that the enchanting star from Glen Cove, New York, revealed to Entertainment Tonight the significant story behind her son’s unique name.
‘Kenkaide is my dad’s name, and obviously my dad has only girls,’ Ashanti told the outlet.
She shared that the middle name given to the child, Kareem, comes from Arabic roots and means ‘gracious, compassionate, and noble.’

Ashanti stated that it was Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., better known as Nelly, who gave their child his name.
I was given my name with immense pride by my father, who found it exceptionally cool, almost to the point of being incredibly awesome, as I shared with the media outlet.
Ashanti shared with the media that their baby arrived earlier than expected, and at the very end, Nelly managed to make it just in time for the delivery.
“Being present during the delivery and witnessing his first moments, Ashanti said it was incredibly emotional and spiritual, causing her to shed tears.”
As I cradled my newborn in my arms for the very first time, the sensation that washed over me was nothing short of electric. For years, I had pictured this moment and now it was finally here – a dream come true.
Ashanti expressed her complete dedication to being a parent, stating, “Everything revolves around my son now; he’s the top priority, and I don’t mind making sacrifices or exerting effort – I will do whatever it takes and put all of myself into caring for him.”
She added that ‘this little boy has my entire soul wrapped around his finger.’
The vocalist encouraged fellow new moms to trust their inner wisdom and remain resilient, regardless of the challenges that may arise.

Ashanti shared with the media, “A child senses your energy deeply. Ensure the baby feels protected, secure, and remember to make room for your own needs too.”
Avoid becoming overly engrossed in the infant’s realm. Maintaining a good balance seems crucial to me.
Ashanti, who just had her first child with Nelly, stated, “Since I’m completely new at this, I’m not aiming to dispense wisdom like an oracle.”
The couple have been wed since late last year.
