Ashanti has 'been waiting to be a mom for a long time.' With Nelly, she welcomes a baby boy

As a long-time fan who has followed Ashanti and Nelly’s musical and romantic journey for years, it’s heartwarming to see them embark on this new chapter as parents. Their love story, marked by on-again off-again romance, finally culminated in the birth of Kareem Kenkaide Hayes. It seems that time has a way of bringing people back together when they least expect it!

Looks as if Ashanti has a new baby to sing about: her first child, with rapper Nelly.

On Monday, the singer known for “Baby” revealed that she and the artist behind “Hot in Herre” had just welcomed their newborn. She showcased her post-delivery physique in an Instagram video posted on the same day. “Four weeks after giving birth, you have no idea what this body is capable of,” she stated, donning labor recovery shorts.

Ashanti shared in her post that she’s been open about her future aspirations, even joking that they haven’t always been promptly realized. Prior to starting a family, Nelly and Ashanti were former partners. Their relationship, marked by periods of on-again, off-again dating, spanned over 11 years before their separation in 2013. However, in September 2023, they reignited their love and got married that very December.

“After longing to become a mother for quite some time, I wasn’t fully prepared for all that motherhood entails!, Ashanti shared, further noting, “I am incredibly proud of my body for granting me my little one, my precious baby.”

43-year-old Ashanti and 49-year-old Nelly recently had a baby named Kareem Kenkaide Hayes on July 18. A spokesperson verified this to People, stating that the joyous and content parents are deeply enamored with their newborn, affectionately referred to as “KK.”

On Wednesday, neither Ashanti nor Nelly’s representatives provided a prompt response to The Times’ request for comment.

I, an ardent admirer, am thrilled to share the news that Ashanti recently welcomed her first child into the world! Notably, this joyous event unfolded just weeks after my beloved Nelly found himself in a challenging situation with law enforcement in his home state. On August 7th, he was apprehended at a St. Louis-area casino under suspicion of possession of ecstasy pills.

Currently, Scott Rosenblum, the lawyer for the Grammy-winning rapper, informed the Associated Press that the artist had won multiple large prizes. However, when he tried to claim them, the officer overseeing the transaction apparently conducted an unnecessary warrant search.

Based on AP reports, court documents from Missouri indicate that Nelly (Cornell Haynes II) was ticketed in June 2018 in Maryland Heights, Missouri, for driving without valid car insurance. A judge issued a warrant against him in December 2023, and it has yet to be resolved.

According to Rosenblum’s account, there was no valid reason for the police officer to search Nelly, as he claimed that Nelly wasn’t made aware of the warrant and had no knowledge of its existence.

“The attorney expressed complete assurance that this matter won’t progress, and we plan to initiate a review of the officer’s behavior.”

Kareem Kenkaide is the third biological child of rapper Nelly, who has two adult children, Chanelle and Cornell Haynes III, with his former partner Channetta Valentine. In addition, he took responsibility for his late sister Jackie’s two kids after she passed away from leukemia in 2005.
