As Oasis prepare to return to their Manchester roots on tour – these are the humble homes of northern band stars

Next month, Oasis will perform live on stage in their native city of Manchester, marking a significant stop on their much-awaited reunion tour.

Initially, brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher weren’t earning millions through concert tickets, merchandise, or documentaries; however, their financial situation has drastically improved over time due to these sources.

Although they now approximately possess a combined net worth of about £60 million, these brothers were brought up on a modest council estate in south Manchester, by their hardworking mother Peggy who earned only a pound per week as a cleaner.

For many years, Noel and Liam, with an elder sibling Paul who is likewise involved in the music world, have often spoken about their “terrible” upbringing in various interviews.

Regardless of numerous efforts by Noel and Liam to secure her a new residence, I’ve consistently maintained my preference for staying put in our council house in Manchester.

The Gallagher brothers aren’t the only Manchester based stars to come from humble beginnings.

Many well-known personalities, such as Mick Hucknall from Simply Red, Mark Owen of Take That, and Harry Styles, hail from the city of Manchester.

In a past interview, at the age of 65, Mick – known for his global popularity as the main vocalist of the renowned pop band – shared his personal story about his mother abandoning their family home when he was only three years old. This left him to be nurtured and cared for by his father in Denton, Manchester.

After achieving success with Simply Red, he subsequently bought a house in Chorlton, which is not too far from his beloved football club, Manchester United.

In 1997, he purchased a detached house for £70,000 that boasts two large bay windows at the front.

Back in the groovy days, I was fortunate enough to call Chorlton home, sharing the same streets as the legendary Bee Gees! For seven unforgettable years, the Gibb brothers – Barry, Robin, and Maurice – graced Keppel Road with their talent-filled presence, turning it into a veritable paradise for disco enthusiasts like me.

In 1957, they first took the stage as The Rattlesnakes at the old Gaumont cinema located in that region.

Originally from Oldham, Mark Owen might have swapped the rainy cityscape of Manchester for sunny Los Angeles, but at one point, he was simply a northern boy residing in a row house.

In the rural area of Holmes Chapel, which encompasses both a village and a civil parish, it was here that Harry Styles from One Direction spent his childhood years in a charming three-bedroom house.

Back in March of this year, I stumbled upon a charming mid-terrace gem listed at an eye-popping £350,000 – oh, the thrill! Funny thing is, I’d actually crossed paths with it back in November 2023. Could it be fate? Or perhaps just a well-timed real estate cycle? Either way, this property has me smitten, and I can’t help but keep tabs on its story.

The property features a uniform decor throughout, providing move-in ready living spaces that include a spacious living room with a fireplace and bay window up front, and at the back, a combined living, dining, and kitchen area, which serves as the home’s centerpiece,” Gascoigne Halman stated.

Currently, it’s thought that Harry has settled down in northern London, as he left the family house not long after his rise to stardom with One Direction.
