Warning: SPOILERS for the NCIS: Sydney episode “Lost in Translation” are ahead!
Fans of NCIS: Sydney will be happy to hear Bluebird Gleeson is back! Last week’s episode revealed the reasons behind her disappearance at the end of Season 2, and Mavournee Hazel’s character has now rejoined the team – though not without some complications. Because of past dishonesty regarding her background when initially joining the Australian Federal Police, she spent much of the latest episode completing paperwork to regain her position. Despite this, she still managed to subtly contribute to solving this week’s case.
Let’s hope Blue can finally get back to her job as a forensic scientist – she’s had a rough time lately. But right now, I want to talk about how the recent TV show, “Lost in Translation,” created two new intriguing mysteries that have really gotten me excited for the third season of NCIS: Sydney.

Trigger Was Suspected To Have A Death Wish
The season 3 premiere of NCIS: Sydney introduced Travis “Trigger” Riggs, a colleague of JD from the Australian Federal Police. He initially joined the team to assess their security and help with forensic work while they looked for someone to replace Blue. I was hoping he’d reappear, and he did in recent episodes. Last week’s episode, “Lost in Translation,” was particularly memorable for Trigger, as he used his skills with explosives to save someone’s life and we learned more about his past.
This week’s case involved Evie and DeShawn discovering a young girl standing on a bomb that would have detonated if she’d moved. Luckily, the bomb was ultimately determined to be harmless. Before they knew that, Evie called Trigger for help disarming it, and he walked her through the process. During the tense situation, Trigger revealed he used to be a bomb technician but failed the psychological exam because of concerns about self-destructive tendencies – a detail that connects to the sealed file Mackey referenced earlier.
What exactly sparked this worry about Trigger? It doesn’t seem like he’s intentionally seeking death, but the psychologists are questioning it nonetheless. I’m certain this detail will be explored further on NCIS: Sydney Season 3. The big question is whether we’ll see this developed in the coming weeks, or if it will be a storyline that unfolds later in the season.

Michelle Mackey Is Being Targeted
If you want to see how the story unfolds, you can watch “Lost in Translation” on Paramount+. But simply put, Rashid Rahmati, the Afghan translator, wasn’t the person responsible for the failed mission in Herat Province in 2020, nor was he the one who killed the recent victim. The true culprit was later found and killed at Sydney’s Central Station, and a memory card proving Rashid was innocent was found. So, the case is solved, isn’t it? Not quite.

I was curious if NCIS: Sydney would ever film in the Australian Outback, and Olivia Swann said the experience was ‘incredible,’ despite the intense heat.
Fans of NCIS: Sydney are hoping Mackey and JD, played by Olivia Swann, will become a couple, as there’s clear chemistry between them at work.
NCIS head Ken Carter told Mackey and JD that other intelligence agencies stopped sharing information with him once he started investigating “The Ghost.” They’re currently keeping details about the terrorist and his crimes secret until they understand the situation better. Things got even stranger when Blue found a kill list on The Ghost’s phone – a list of people his superiors wanted eliminated to hide their involvement in an incident in Afghanistan. Mackey sent Blue home and began reviewing the list herself, only to discover her own name on it.
Instead of showing JD what she’d discovered, Mackey sent the files to her own phone and removed her name from the hit list. I think she did this to avoid being taken off the case by her bosses and wants to investigate further on her own before sharing anything. But it’s strange that Mackey was on the list in the first place. She didn’t seem to have any connection to the village or know anyone involved before this case began. What could be happening?
I predict the recent Michelle Mackey development will be a major part of the story in NCIS: Sydney Season 3, and could even continue into a potential Season 4. I’m getting ahead of myself, but stay tuned to TopMob for more updates on this mystery as new episodes air Tuesdays at 10 p.m. Eastern on CBS.
