As four Beatles movies film simultaneously, Paul McCartney announces first new album in six years

I’m so excited! It feels like perfect timing with the start of filming on that new Beatles movie directed by Sam Mendes. And on top of that, Paul McCartney is releasing a brand new album – his first in six years! It’s called The Boys of Dungeon Lane, and it’s coming out in just a couple of months. It sounds like it’s going to be a really nostalgic record, which I can’t wait for.

The iconic singer-songwriter announced the release date for their new album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, with a Facebook post stating it will be available on May 29th.

The album’s name comes from a line in the song ‘Days We Left Behind’. I was reflecting on those past days, and I often question if my songwriting is just focused on what’s already happened. But then I realize, what else can you really write about?

The BBC reports that Paul McCartney’s new album is titled after a road in Speke, near the Mersey River, where he used to go birdwatching as a child. This is his 19th solo album.

The album offers a personal look into Paul McCartney’s previously untold memories of growing up in Liverpool after the war. It’s been described as a series of intimate and revealing moments from his early life.

The album’s lead single, ‘Days We Left Behind’, first aired on BBC Radio Merseyside. The song evokes imagery of dimly lit bars and simple guitars, with lyrics centered around the lasting impact of past experiences – how some memories can never be forgotten.

McCartney explained in a recent announcement that the new album is deeply personal and nostalgic. He admitted to sometimes questioning whether he’s only inspired by past experiences, but then realized that all writing ultimately draws from one’s history.

He explained the song is filled with memories of growing up in Liverpool. They didn’t have a lot of material possessions, but the strong community made up for it, and they didn’t even realize they were lacking anything.

The announcement coincides with filming currently happening in Liverpool and London for a four-part series about The Beatles, all episodes of which are expected to be released together in April 2028.

Harris Dickinson will portray John Lennon, with Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr in the upcoming film about The Beatles.

The game The Boys of Dungeon Lane will be released on May 29th. Meanwhile, a four-film event featuring The Beatles is planned for release in 2028.
