As A Horror Fan, I’m Pretty Disappointed With The 2026 Lineup So Far

Happy New Year, horror fans! I always look forward to new scary movies, and I’m constantly checking the release schedule. But after reviewing the films planned for 2026, I’m not quite as excited about this year’s horror releases as I usually am. Let’s discuss why.

There’s Too Many Horror Sequels In 2026 For My Taste

I’m not saying there aren’t any horror movies I’m looking forward to next year—there are a few I’m eager to see when they release. However, overall, I’m disappointed with what’s been announced so far. There are simply too many sequels, and many of them are for series I’m not particularly interested in revisiting.

Get ready for a wave of horror sequels! This year will bring new installments in popular franchises like 28 Years Later, Scream, Silent Hill, Ready or Not, Resident Evil, Terrifier, Scary Movie, Evil Dead, Insidious, and The Strangers. It’s going to be a busy 2026 for horror fans!

Last year, we had a solid lineup of new movies planned, including titles like Sinners, Weapons, Bring Her Back, Companion, Together, and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. We also scheduled sequels to popular films – including follow-ups to Final Destination, The Black Phone, The Conjuring, 28 Years Later, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Five Nights at Freddy’s – to create a well-rounded release schedule.

Following a fantastic year for horror in 2025, I’m disappointed by the upcoming movie releases, which seem to lack fresh ideas. Currently, the major original horror films scheduled for this year aren’t generating much excitement.

Here’s The Scary Movies I Have The Highest Hopes For Right Now

I’m really looking forward to the upcoming sequels, especially Ready or Not 2. It’s been seven years since the original, and the trailer looks great! I’m also interested in Scream 7 because it’s bringing back a lot of familiar faces. Plus, the fact that Zach Cregger, the director of Weapons, is directing the new Resident Evil movie has me more excited than I usually am for a remake of a video game film.

This month, Sam Raimi is returning to horror after more than 15 years with a new film called Send Help. I’m also really excited about The Bride!, starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale, and Robert Eggers’ upcoming werewolf movie, Werwulf, following his film Nosferatu. But the original horror movie I’m most looking forward to is probably Hokum, starring Adam Scott in a haunted house story from Neon.

I’m hoping to revisit this article in a few months and be able to list some truly scary movies that cheered me up, but right now, I have to admit I’m pretty underwhelmed by the horror films that have come out this year.
