Arrow star Katie Cassidy thinks her firing was “political”
As an ardent fan, I can’t help but share my thoughts about Katie Cassidy‘s character being written off from Arrow. From her perspective, it seems she views this move as a politically-motivated decision.
In the thrilling world of the Arrowverse, I’m recognized by fans for my portrayal of Laurel Lance, better known as Black Canary. Sadly, my character met her end in season four, but the story didn’t stop there. I found myself reappearing as Black Siren on The Flash, and then making a comeback once more on Arrow.
Looking back on being let go from Arrow, Cassidy admitted being shocked.

She expressed surprise, as the following day found her in New York, attending Comic-Con with her entire cast, which she shared during an interview on the ‘Inside of You’ podcast.
As a gaming enthusiast pouring my heart into this project, I must admit, there were moments when I felt a whirlwind of emotions. Initially, I was filled with anger, a reaction to disappointment perhaps. But it wasn’t long before that anger morphed into something deeper, born out of sadness. Yet, even in the midst of these feelings, there were instances where I found myself overwhelmed with an unusual happiness.
There were several factors contributing to the decision, and I have my own ideas. To me, it seemed politically motivated, and there was a great deal involved.
At one point, Cassidy expressed her displeasure about the choice to eliminate Black Canary to the show’s top producers, during a conversation they had.
She said, “I found myself saying something along the lines of, ‘It seems I’ve constantly received the lesser part, and now I must leave.’
As an ardent admirer, let me clarify: I didn’t raise my voice in anger; instead, tears of sorrow welled up within me. The dedication I poured into that production, especially the character, was beyond measure. It held a special place in my heart.
Following her role as Earth-2 Laurel/Black Siren, a counterpart to her initial character from another dimension, on The Flash, Cassidy was invited to reappear on Arrow.
Regrettably, following my demise, it appears that their viewership dipped slightly. However, I received an invitation after The Flash was broadcasted, saying something like, “Would you return as a series regular? We might have erred.” This is what I remember being told.
“That was season 6, and on season 5, I was recurring. Then I was back and better than ever.”
