Arrogant Golden Globe stars caught leaving early, smoking at tables and mocking fellow nominees in cattiest award show yet

The Golden Globes ceremony on Sunday, held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, was unfortunately marked by inappropriate behavior from several famous actors.

Sean Penn got in trouble at the awards show after he was seen smoking a cigarette inside the hotel, which is a non-smoking venue.

According to a live blog from Vanity Fair, the 65-year-old, two-time Oscar winner ignored the event’s no-smoking rule to satisfy his urge for a cigarette.

As a lifestyle expert covering the event, I noticed a bit of a trend – several guests were actively searching for designated outdoor smoking areas around the Beverly Hills Hilton. It seemed like people were looking for a comfortable spot to step outside for a smoke.

You know, as someone who’s been around a lot of film sets and premieres, I’ve heard some incredible stories. One director actually shared with me that he witnessed Sean Penn become visibly moved – he said Penn just lit up with emotion right there at the table while watching a film. It was a really powerful moment, apparently.

Daily Mail has reached out to Penn’s rep for comment but has not immediately heard back.

Penn also chain-smoked through a news conference at the 2024 Marrakech International Film Festival.

Another celebrity whose conduct surprised some viewers Sunday was Amanda Seyfried.

The actress, age 40, appeared disappointed after losing the Best Actress award to Rose Byrne for her role in ‘If I Had Legs I’d Kick You’.

Amanda Seyfried, a nominee for her role in The Testament of Ann Lee, winced and looked uncomfortable before applauding for Byrne.

After the award show, Seyfried faced criticism for how she appeared to react when Michelle Williams won Best Actress in a Limited Series or Anthology, beating Seyfried in the same category.

Okay, so I was dying to see Amanda Seyfried at this event – she was nominated for ‘Long Bright River,’ which, hello, amazing book! But apparently, she said poor Ben Foster wasn’t there. I was really hoping they’d both show up, honestly. It just feels…incomplete without him! She mentioned it, and I immediately started checking for photos, but no Ben. It’s killing me!

Daily Mail has reached out to Seyfried’s rep for comment but have not immediately heard back.

Reactions on social media appeared to pick up on unusual behavior from Seyfried.

One viewer loved Amanda Seyfried’s reaction during the awards show, noting she started clapping before the winner was announced, likely assuming she wouldn’t win. They found it to be a genuinely charming moment.

Several celebrities, like Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, Dax Shepard, Kristen Bell, and Keegan-Michael Key, left the event before it finished, even though many awards hadn’t been presented yet.

Some viewers were put off by a memorial to late filmmaker Rob Reiner that was described as too dry.

Host Nikki Glaser finished the show wearing a baseball cap from the movie ‘Spinal Tap,’ a nod to the film’s director, and jokingly said the ceremony ‘went to 11’ – a famous line from the movie meaning it reached its absolute peak.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen a lot of tributes, and honestly, the one at the Globes for Rob Reiner felt a little… underwhelming. Someone on X perfectly put it – it was the most lukewarm acknowledgment possible, especially considering all the people in the room who actually know him. It just didn’t quite hit the mark, you know?

Another said, ‘The so called Rob Reiner tribute just being Nikki Glaser wearing a Spinal Tap hat.’

At the Golden Globe Awards in 2026, Timothée Chalamet became the frontrunner for the Best Actor Oscar, surpassing Leonardo DiCaprio (star of “One Battle After Another”). Chalamet won the award for his performance in “Marty Supreme,” a film directed by Josh Safdie.

Leading up to awards season, Leonardo DiCaprio, at 51 years old, was expected to win the Best Actor award. However, according to predictions from the Kalshi exchange, Timothée Chalamet is now the clear frontrunner to take home the top acting prize at the March Academy Awards.

I was thrilled to see Paul Thomas Anderson’s film with Leonardo DiCaprio, One Battle After Another, win Best Picture – Comedy or Musical on Sunday night at the Beverly Hilton! It was such a satisfying win, especially because it beat out Timothée Chalamet’s movie, as well as Blue Moon, Bugonia, No Other Choice, and Nouvelle Vague. Honestly, it felt like a real victory for a truly deserving film.

Oh my gosh, “One Battle After Another” absolutely swept the awards last night, taking home four! But honestly, even though it did so well, I’m already bracing myself because “Hanmet” – Chloe Zhao’s masterpiece! – won the very last award, Best Picture – Drama, and it totally feels like that’s going to be its biggest competition at the Oscars. Poor “Frankenstein”, “It Was Just An Accident”, “The Secret Agent”, “Sentimental Value”, and “Sinners” didn’t stand a chance! I just know “Hanmet” is going to be huge.

Three television shows took home awards: The Pitt won in the drama category, The Studio in comedy or musical, and Adolescence as a limited series.

Thirty-year-old Timothée Chalamet sparked conversation when he seemed to ignore his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, while accepting the award for Marty Supreme.

The French actor had a significant moment at the awards show, winning the award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy film. He finished his acceptance speech quickly, simply saying, ‘To my parents and partner, I love you. Thank you very much.’

Jenner, 28, received a surprisingly subtle expression of affection from her partner when she publicly shared her love at last week’s Critics Choice Awards 2026.

Timothée Chalamet won the role, beating out strong competition including Leonardo DiCaprio. Other actors considered for the part were George Clooney, Ethan Hawke, Lee Byung-Hun, and Jesse Plemons.

One Battle After Another was the big winner, taking home four awards, including Best Picture in the Comedy or Musical category. Paul Thomas Anderson won for Best Director and Screenplay, and Teyana Taylor unexpectedly won Best Supporting Actress.

One Battle After Another has enjoyed a successful awards season so far, but it will face strong competition from the film Hamnet, featuring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal, which recently won Best Picture in the Drama category.

Buckley won a major acting award, receiving the prize for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.

Irish actress, age 36, won an acting award, beating out well-known competitors like Jennifer Lawrence, Renate Reinsve, Julia Roberts, Tessa Thompson, and Eva Victor.

The TV series Adolescence on Netflix was the big winner of the night, taking home all the awards in its categories. Its 16-year-old star, Owen Cooper, made history as one of the youngest people ever to win a Golden Globe Award.

The young actor won an award for Best Supporting Actor in a TV series, limited series, or TV movie.

Stephen Graham, who appeared with him in His Adolescence, later won an award for Best Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or TV Movie.

The Netflix series had a big night, with Erin Doherty winning Best Supporting Actress for her role in a TV series, limited series, or TV movie.

The show took home the award for Best Limited TV Series, Anthology Series, or TV Movie, beating out other nominees including ‘All Her Fault,’ ‘The Beast in Me,’ ‘Black Mirror,’ ‘Dying for Sex,’ and ‘The Girlfriend’.

Noah Wyle continued his streak of success after winning at the Critics Choice Awards 2026. He received the award for Best Actor in a Drama Series for his role in The Pitt, a show created by R. Scott Gemmill.

Wyle also guided the popular HBO show to win television’s highest award when it was named Best Drama Series.

The Studio had a great night, winning both Best TV Series – Musical or Comedy and Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Series, with Seth Rogen taking home the latter award.
