Arnold Schwarzenegger Makes A Fun Point About Son Patrick Schwarzenegger’s Name, And He Tells No (True) Lies
The discussion about nepotism in Hollywood remains robust and is branching out in unforeseen directions. Various individuals connected to famous stars have joined the debate – ranging from Brooke Shields’ daughter expressing her views on the matter, to Ethan and Maya Hawke sharing their thoughts, which has added fuel to the discussion. However, there are also those outside of the family circle, such as Amanda Seyfried, who are advocating for what is known as “nepo-babies.” As this dialogue progresses, Arnold Schwarzenegger emphasized a benefit to his son, Patrick, in maintaining the family name.
The well-known duo made up of a father and son, both celebrities, visited Variety for the actors on actors segment. During their discussion, Patrick Schwarzenegger’s role in the popular series “White Lotus,” which can be streamed with a Max subscription, was brought up. In addition to this, Patrick discussed how being related to a high-profile celebrity brings about many preconceived notions that affect every project, including Mike White’s work. He also mentioned that he had contemplated using an alternate name to avoid being linked to his famous parents.
In various manners, I perceive its implications. Mike White expressed that this concept carries burdens, as when one has accomplished parents like you and your mother, there’s an extra layer of public opinion. Mike was concerned about potential judgments if he cast me, and indeed, people did judge – they cared about the perception that I landed the role due to you and Mom. At times earlier in my career, I pondered whether adopting a pseudonym would be more sensible. It took some time for me to reach a stage where I was less preoccupied with operating in your shadow compared to following my own path as I believed I should.
It appears that no matter who your family is, Hollywood can still be a challenging environment to establish yourself. Having the Terminator and Maria Shriver as parents puts a lot of pressure on you to prove yourself beyond your connections. However, luckily for young Schwarzenegger, his role in the White Lotus demonstrated that he has the talent to succeed (though perhaps his eating habits in Thailand could use some adjustment).
Arnold Schwarzenegger expressed delight that his son didn’t adopt an alias to capitalize on his rising career, choosing instead to stand on his own merits. He likened Patrick to the renowned multi-generational acting family, the Curtis’. By this, he referred to Jamie Lee Curtis, who has built a successful career far beyond her famous family name. In essence, Arnold stated that regardless of who you identify as your relatives, it’s talent that truly propels you forward, as he emphasized.
I’m thankful you retained the name, as it allows me to share the limelight. You’ve now joined an exclusive group, and let me tell you, Jamie Lee Curtis is one of them – she’s undeniably one of the most exceptional actors ever. Prove your worth, and you can shatter the notion that success is solely due to family ties.
A heartfelt sentiment indeed, and it’s even more delightful when expressed openly. However, attributing his son’s talents to the family genetic pool seems fitting for any proud father to mention. Interestingly, the genuine compliments from the True Lies actor towards his costar, as well as consistently supporting the Gen V alum, especially when he enthusiastically endorsed Patrick’s daring scene, offers a brighter perspective of the celebrity world that we could witness more often.
It appears that this 31-year-old is embarking on a promising journey, and I can’t wait to follow along as he and the Schwarzenegger name continue to make their mark. I personally hope for a chance to see both Schwarzeneggers in a project together one day.
