A remarkable career boasting twenty-five trophies, 115 appearances for England, five international tournament wins, and a wealth of unforgettable goals.
It’s a remarkable accomplishment, and on Tuesday morning, David Beckham finally received a medal that had always been just out of reach throughout his successful 21-year playing career and beyond.
It’s amazing to think it all started in a simple backyard in Leytonstone. Back then, playing for Manchester United was just a hopeful dream for young Beckham, who was diligently practicing the free kicks he’d become famous for, with his dad, Ted, carefully watching and guiding him.
He joined the Premier League club as a young trainee in 1993, and this proved to be the start of a long period of achievement, both in his football career and in his life overall.
So far, this former Manchester United and England star is the only British footballer to have won a league championship in four different countries, beginning with six Premier League titles while playing in England.
Under manager Sir Alex Ferguson, he also won the FA Cup twice and played a vital role in the club’s historic treble-winning season, which famously ended with a dramatic Champions League victory over Bayern Munich in 1999.
In 2003, he joined Real Madrid, becoming the newest star in a tradition of world-class players – known as ‘Galácticos’ – that included Brazilian striker Ronaldo and French midfielder Zinedine Zidane.
Despite a period of few successes with Real Madrid, he eventually won his sole La Liga title with the club in 2007. Soon after, he left European football to pursue a new opportunity in the United States.

As Sir David neared retirement, he experienced a final period of success in France. Paris Saint-Germain signed him to a short-term contract, allowing him to finish his career by winning the French Ligue 1 title in 2013.
A true England icon, he played for his country a remarkable 115 times, leading the team as captain for 58 of those matches. He first appeared for England in 1996, making his debut under manager Glenn Hoddle in a game against Moldova.
Despite playing under five different full-time England managers and participating in five major tournaments – including three World Cups – the footballer never managed to win a trophy.
Despite some challenges, there were also fantastic moments, like the unforgettable last-minute goal against Greece that qualified England for the 2002 World Cup.
Beyond his success in soccer, David Beckham became a major celebrity when he married Victoria Beckham, a fashion designer and member of the Spice Girls, in 1999. This marriage helped establish him as a household name far beyond the world of sports.
The Daily Mail reported that the fashion designer personally created the suit he wore to Tuesday’s ceremony, where he was recognized for his contributions to sports and charitable causes.
The project started in June after the couple found out the former Manchester United player was going to be knighted by the King.
A friend shared with the Daily Mail that David jokingly complains to Victoria about her never designing clothes for him.
When David announced his plans to marry at Windsor later in the year, Victoria felt she had enough time to make the necessary arrangements.
According to a source, Victoria had never taken on a project like this before. She understood it would require a lot of time, but she also knew the official ceremony wouldn’t happen for a while.
Victoria arrived at work and immediately began designing a three-piece suit. She’s known for her dedication, so she worked tirelessly to ensure every detail was perfect.

Last year, Sir David, a self-described strong supporter of the royal family, became an ambassador for The King’s Foundation, a charity started by the King in 1990 to promote education.
He told Town & Country magazine in January that he grew up in a family that strongly supported and admired the royal family, and that this upbringing shaped his own lifelong admiration for them.

The retired footballer also revealed his wife cried when she found out the King had contacted him.

The honors on Tuesday also included Nobel Prize laureate Sir Kazuo Ishiguro, the acclaimed novelist, and Dame Elaine Paige, a celebrated star of the West End stage.
Sir Kazuo was made a Companion of Honour for services to literature.
Founded in 1917 by King George V, the Order of the Companions of Honour is a limited membership group, capped at 65 people. It recognizes individuals who have made significant, ongoing contributions to fields like art, science, medicine, or public service.
Kazuo Ishiguro, a 70-year-old author born in Japan but raised in the UK, is celebrated for novels like “Never Let Me Go” (2005) and “The Remains of the Day” (1989), which earned him the Man Booker Prize.

Dame Elaine, recognized for her contributions to music and charitable work, was born Elaine Bickerstaff in North London in 1948. She quickly became famous for playing Eva Perón in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s popular musical, Evita.
The show premiered in 1978, and the 77-year-old actress went on to win the Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical, having been nominated alongside her co-star, David Essex.
She’s a celebrated stage performer, known for leading roles in major productions like Cats, Chess, Piaf, and Sunset Boulevard. More recently, she’s brought her talents to the London Palladium, appearing in popular pantomime shows.
Throughout her career, she’s released over 20 solo albums and achieved a number one hit with the song ‘I Know Him So Well,’ a duet with Barbara Dickson.
As someone who’s spent years observing creative success, I’ve always admired those who receive recognition from their peers. One honor I find particularly meaningful is the Gold Badge of Merit from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors – I was thrilled to see this artist receive it back in 1993. It’s a real testament to their lasting impact on the music world.
Beyond her professional life, she actively supports several charities, such as The Children’s Trust, the Royal Voluntary Service, and the Dan Maskell Tennis Trust. She has served as president of the Dan Maskell Tennis Trust since 2010.
