Ariana Grande’s steamy kiss scene was CUT from Wicked: For Good because it was ‘too passionate’

Ariana Grande filmed a passionate kiss for her movie Wicked, but the scene was ultimately cut from the final version.

The character Galinda, later known as Glinda the Good Witch, shares a kiss with her handsome husband, Fiyero (played by Jonathan Bailey).

Soon after, Fiyero falls for Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), who was once Glinda’s best friend but is now known as the Wicked Witch of the West.

Dana Fox, one of the movie’s writers, recently explained why the kiss was cut from the final version of the musical film.

The editor explained to Deadline that they removed a romantic kissing scene between Fiyero and Glinda because it was a bit too intense.

It was painful to watch him choose Elphaba, and even harder to accept that she left with him, Fox said. The genuine connection between him and Glinda was just too obvious to ignore.

She explained that while he definitely cared for Glinda, it wasn’t romantic love. He loved her, but in a different way – more like a close friendship, she clarified.

You know, that scene was just too sweet. Honestly, the producers worried it would be devastating for the audience if Fiyero didn’t end up with the character they were rooting for. They thought it would create a really negative reaction to Elphaba, Glinda, and even Fiyero himself! Ultimately, I think cutting it was the right call – it was just too adorable for audiences to handle the potential heartbreak.

The Stanford graduate explained that they don’t regret any of the cuts that were made, believing each one was necessary and justified at the time.

Fox collaborated with Winnie Holzman to write the screenplay for the two-part movie. Holzman previously wrote the book for the 2003 Broadway musical that served as the source material for the films.

News reports covered the movie’s launch when a fan unexpectedly ran towards Grande on the red carpet at the Singapore premiere.

Cynthia Erivo quickly jumped in to help when a man rushed towards Ariana Grande, positioning herself between them and becoming a viral sensation for her bravery.

The person responsible turned out to be Johnson Wen, an Australian influencer known online as Pyjama Man. He was quickly identified as the prankster behind the incident.

He’s known for unexpectedly running onto the stage during public appearances by famous people, something he’s done before at concerts for artists like The Chainsmokers and The Weeknd.

Wen was arrested in Singapore for causing a public disturbance and spent nine days in jail. He was then sent back to Australia, according to CNA news.

The movie Wicked: For Good opened this past Friday and was a big hit, bringing in $223 million worldwide during its first weekend.

The film earned $147 million in its opening weekend in the United States, making it the biggest opening ever for a movie based on a Broadway show, according to Variety.

The movie hasn’t received overwhelmingly positive reviews, currently holding a 69% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating a mixed reception.
