Ariana Grande’s Attacker Sentenced to 9 Days in Prison

Ariana Grande was briefly grabbed by a man at the Singapore premiere of “Wicked: For Good” last week, and that man has now been sentenced to prison.

According to BBC News, Johnson Wen, 26, was convicted of disturbing the peace after a video of his actions circulated online. He received a nine-day jail sentence after trying to bypass security barriers for a second time and being restrained.

Wen admitted guilt in court, and prosecutors have labeled him a “serial intruder,” citing videos of him running onto stages at concerts by artists like Katy Perry and The Weeknd, where he was then removed by security. News reports in Australia state that Wen is currently banned from multiple stadiums and has been issued significant fines.

Footage shows a fan, Wen, jumping over security barriers to approach Ariana Grande and grabbing her shoulders. Grande’s co-star, Cynthia Erivo, intervened, and security guards then removed Wen from the area. Wen could have faced a fine of up to S$2,000 and up to three months in jail, but ultimately received a nine-day sentence.

Ariana Grande hasn’t spoken publicly about what happened, but Cynthia Erivo hinted at difficulties, saying they’ve all been through a lot, both in their personal lives and recently. Meanwhile, the individual involved, Wen, has told the court he regrets his actions and won’t repeat them.

Following the incident, Wen announced on Instagram that he had been released from arrest. This happened while many people were expressing concern for Grande, considering her previous negative experiences with public events, such as the bombing at her concert in Manchester, England on May 22nd, which tragically resulted in 22 deaths and 116 injuries.

As a huge musical fan, I was so excited to see Ariana Grande playing Glinda alongside Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba! They recently did this amazing special called Wicked: One Wonderful Night on NBC where the cast performed a bunch of songs live – both from the original Wicked and the upcoming Wicked: For Good movie. It basically felt like a mini-concert and a sneak peek all rolled into one!

The new movie Wicked: For Good is proving to be a huge hit, already surpassing box office records for PG-rated films on Fandango. It’s currently outselling popular movies like Frozen 2, the original Wicked film, and Beauty and the Beast.

Ariana Grande is still making public appearances and is scheduled to attend the last premiere in New York City today, November 17th, before the movie Wicked: For Good is released in theaters on November 21st.
