Ariana DeBose Slams Rachel Zegler, Declares Narcissism Not to Be Encouraged
It appears that Rachel Zegler is losing more support, as the criticism towards the “progressive” retelling of the Snow White fairy tale in live action continues to escalate.
On a Tuesday, Ariana DeBose, a 34-year-old Oscar winner who acted alongside Rachel Zegler in Steven Spielberg’s 2021 West Side Story reboot, seemed to express some criticism towards the 23-year-old on Instagram.
In simpler terms, the quote that DeBose shared came from Marc Platt’s son Jonah, who is often referred to as a “nepo baby” (short for nepotism baby). This Jonah had criticized Zegler in a heated outburst that he later removed from his social media.
On a vibrant rose setting, her message was clear: ‘Narcissism should neither be indulged nor reinforced.’
DeBose structured her social media message around the empowering melody of Beyoncé’s song “Cozy,” where the multiple Grammy winner expresses her resilience following an apparent setback.
Instead of allowing comments on her post, she opted for a setting that muted the voices of her more than 700,000 followers, thereby silencing their reactions to the drama.
During the final stages of the 2022 awards season for West Side Story, there were whispers that DeBose and Zegler may have experienced a disagreement or rift between them.
Despite the uncertainty about any potential drama between them, Zegler didn’t publicly extend her congratulations to DeBose, whom she had expressed affection for earlier, upon her history-making Best Supporting Actress victory at the Oscars of that particular year.
Instead of directly reposting, she shared a picture of Debose portraying Anita from West Side Story (a character originally played by the Academy Award winner Rita Moreno) on her Instagram Story during that period.
In an unexpected turn of events following our recent gathering, I found myself unreciprocating the digital connection with not one, but two esteemed actresses on Instagram. This change occurred merely a day post the event, where I was fortunate enough to receive an eleventh-hour invitation – an honor initially declined by the Academy due to some oversight. Quite intriguing, wouldn’t you say?
In the past few weeks, Zegler’s opinions have sparked debate and stirred up more anger about Disney’s modern retelling of Snow White, which has been labeled as being too politically correct.
As a lifestyle expert, I must share some intriguing insights about the recently released $270 million film that premiered on March 21st. It appears this blockbuster might be heading towards an unexpected turn at the box office, as it managed to gather only $42.2 million domestically during its opening weekend.
This week, the film “Snow White,” featuring Gal Gadot, has earned a domestic total of $66.9 million and a global total of $142.7 million after spending two weekends in cinemas.
In simpler terms, the modern version of the 1937 cartoon masterpiece hasn’t received favorable reviews from critics; it only managed to get a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
It’s predicted that after all costs are accounted for, Disney may experience a loss of approximately $115 million due to the movie.
Last week, Jonah Platt, the son of producer Marc Platt, surprised fans by expressing his anger towards Halyna Hutchins, apparently accusing her of being responsible for the movie’s poor performance at the box office.

38-year-old Marc’s firstborn criticized Zegler on Instagram, labeling her as “immaturity personified” and suggesting she exhibits “self-centered” traits in a post that was later removed.
He acted following a fan’s remark, which mentioned a Variety article suggesting that Marc traveled to New York to discuss with Zegler her contentious pro-Palestine posts on social media.
The spectator’s remark stated: ‘It is said that your father traveled to New York City to scold a young actress. Care to share any thoughts about this situation? I find it extremely inappropriate and unwarranted. Shouldn’t everyone have the freedom of speech? It’s disappointing.’
Jonah, who has the acclaimed actor/singer, his younger brother Ben Platt (age 31), as a family member, retaliated with a fiery outburst that started along the lines of: “Are you actually planning to proceed with this?
Yes, due to an issue involving a young employee inserting her political views into promotional work for a significant Disney production that carries hundreds of millions of dollars in value, my father, who is the producer, had to abruptly depart his family and travel across the country to address this matter. This 20-year-old was contractually obligated to promote the film, which earned her a multi-million dollar salary.
In a straightforward manner, the host of the “Being Jewish Podcast” went on to express that her actions had an undeniable negative impact on the movie’s ticket sales.
In other words, expressing your thoughts freely doesn’t give you the license to say anything you wish in your workplace without facing consequences.
Many thousands of individuals contributed to making that movie, yet she repeatedly steered conversations towards fulfilling her juvenile whims, potentially jeopardizing the efforts of her fellow cast and crew members, as well as the hardworking blue-collar staff whose livelihoods are tied to the film’s success.

‘Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged,’ Jonah concluded his explosive rant.
As a lifestyle expert looking back, I’ve found myself under scrutiny following my recent online interaction, which seemed to ignite quite a passionate debate among users.
One user commented, “It’s quite unusual to phrase it that way when referring to a 67-year-old billionaire with grown children, as they typically have their families still around.
In a playful manner, the individual held both 38-year-old Jonah and 31-year-old Ben, saying, “I suppose you two will be visiting HER again, with me taking care of our little ones at home.
A different person remarked that Jonah Platt, who is almost forty, is becoming noticeably upset over a girl born in 2001 in the comments section of Instagram…
‘Jonah Platt seems unaware of the inner workings of movies. The box office returns don’t influence the blue-collar crew members who labored on this project, as they had already received their compensation.’
Zegler has sparked backlash with a series of controversial tweets in recent months.
In August, she shared a post on X (previously recognized as Twitter), expressing gratitude towards her fans for their backing regarding Snow White.
She expressed: ‘I adore you all tremendously! A big thank you for the affection and the incredible 120 million views on our trailer within 24 hours! It’s been quite a rollercoaster. Right now, I’m deep into rehearsals for Romeo + Juliet, so it’s time for me to take my leave. See you later.’

However, only a moment afterwards, she expressed her solidarity with Palestine during the conflict in Gaza within the very same conversation, saying, “Moreover, never forget, liberate Palestine.
According to Variety’s report, the studio expressed their worries about a specific post to Zegler’s team, and since then, the movie’s producer, Marc, has traveled to New York to discuss the matter with the actress. However, she declined to remove the post from her social media.
Additionally, he recommended collaborating with a social media specialist after she made the statements “Fk Donald Trump” and “May Trump supporters… never experience peace,” in response to the 2024 presidential election.
Recently, The New York Times revealed that it was necessary for Platt to emphasize the significance of the film and her career before requesting her to exercise caution in her posts.
A source close to the situation shared with Variety: ‘She wasn’t aware of the implications of her behavior on the movie, on Gal, or anyone else involved.’
The movie faced additional issues beyond Zegler’s remarks, as it faced allegations that it underwent a modernization process to eliminate outdated cultural references and stereotypes, which some people referred to as an overzealous effort towards inclusivity or political correctness.
Actors of short stature such as Peter Dinklage and Jason Acuna, who is famously known as ‘Wee Man’ in the MTV show Jackass, voiced their disapproval over the choice not to cast actors with dwarfism for the roles of Doc, Bashful, Dopey, Grumpy, Sneezy, Happy, and Sleepy.
