As a connoisseur of chilling tales and a lover of exquisite culinary experiences, I can hardly contain my excitement for Amazon’s upcoming horror-thriller, “House of Spoils.” The first trailer alone has me salivating with anticipation! With Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) leading the cast as the beleaguered Chef, this movie promises to serve up a genre-bending feast that’s sure to delight and terrify in equal measure.

Amazon has unveiled the initial trailer for the upcoming horror-thriller movie titled House of Spoils, featuring Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story). In this unique film, DeBose portrays a character named “Chef.” The plot revolves around the turmoil she experiences in the kitchen and beyond when she moves to a secluded mansion to establish her own farm-to-table eatery.

However, it quickly becomes clear that the spectral influence of the previous proprietor persists, and from the preview, it looks like chaos ensues as Chef struggles to acclimate to her new professional environment.

From the preview, it appears that this movie combines elements of “The Menu” and “The Bear,” adding a touch of horror for good measure. The filmmakers collaborated with food stylist Zoe Hegedus to design the appetizing dishes you see in the film, including squid ink risotto. However, the dish shown in the trailer seems to contain an excessive amount of crawling creatures, which I find a bit unsettling. Notably, Hegedus has worked on films like “Midsommar,” “Poor Things,” and both Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” movies.

In the trailer presented, the narrative starts by showing DeBose’s character moving away from her old job to establish a business in an elegant, ivy-covered mansion somewhere in the countryside. With affectionate attention, diligent effort, and substantial renovations, she and her team work tirelessly to convert this place into a stunning fine-dining restaurant for high-end patrons. Initially, everything seems promising; however, things take a turn for the worse as problems start to arise.

The chef is advised to steer clear of the former owner’s garden and refrain from consuming anything sourced from there, which is certainly concerning. However, she soon begins to observe peculiar occurrences such as insects in her meals and strange events taking place across the property. A video even suggests someone being pushed and made to drink an unknown substance – could it be blood? It’s safe to say this experience will not turn out to be the idyllic culinary adventure the chef had hoped for.

House of Spoils represents the second joint venture from filmmakers Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy, who previously teamed up for Blow the Man Down. This production also continues a series of collaborations between Amazon MGM Studios and Blumhouse Television.

In addition, Barbie Ferreira and Arian Moayed will be featured in the upcoming series titled “The House of Plunder,” which starts streaming on Amazon Prime Video on October 3rd.
