Ariana DeBose and Barbie Ferreira lead upcoming Blumhouse horror House of Spoils

As a cinephile with a penchant for suspenseful thrillers and culinary tales, I am beyond excited about the upcoming release of “House of Spoils.” With Ariana DeBose (“West Side Story”) and Barbie Ferreira (“Euphoria”) leading the cast, this film promises to be a gastronomic and dramatic feast.

In the gripping world of restaurant management and culinary arts, Oscar-winning actress Ariana DeBose (from West Side Story) and Barbie Ferreira of Euphoria find themselves entangled. This is all set in the suspenseful series titled House of Spoils. The series will make its global debut at this year’s Fantastic Fest, specifically on Saturday, September 21. Following its premiere, it will be available for streaming worldwide on October 3 via Prime Video.

The House of Plunder narrates the journey of an ambitious chef (Ariana DeBose) as she sets up a restaurant in a secluded mansion. She grapples with kitchen turmoil, crippling self-doubt… and an eerie spirit that seems determined to undermine her success at every step.”

Elle Magazine secured an exclusive interview with the cast and creative team behind the upcoming film. They spoke to Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy, who had collaborated before on “Blow the Man Down”.

As a devoted admirer, I can share that they left no stone unturned in the meticulous planning for this movie. They provided hands-on training to the actors, and even brought on board Zoe Hegedus, an acclaimed food stylist, as a consultant. Known for her exceptional culinary creations gracing our screens in films and TV shows, Hegedus boasts an impressive resume that includes Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films, Midsommar, and Poor Things.

“I trained in New York City for about a week with chef Ayesha Nurdjaja of Shukette (which is an amazing spot, by the way). It was terrifying, but I had a blast! She gave me a good jumpstart! Dang, can she run a kitchen!” DeBose told the outlet.

Although the plot isn’t fully revealed in the logline, Savage Cole hinted to Elle that House of Spoils would be a challenging production, explaining their careful choice of actors. According to the director, they were seeking an actor capable of handling the demanding role, and DeBose proved to be just the right person for it.

It was like she’s in every scene. It’s dirty, it’s nasty. Some of these sets, we literally had her crawling in dirt over and over again one night and there was a lot we asked of her.

In the play, Ferreira portrays a fellow chef at the restaurant, adding a genuine flair to her performance since her mom and aunt are actual chefs in real life, as Savage Cole points out.

“The ‘House of Plunder’ boasts performances from Arian Moayed (‘Succession’), Amara Karan (‘The Darjeeling Limited’), Mikkel Bratt Silset (‘Blade Runner 2099’), and Marton Csokas (‘Cuckoo’). Savage Cole and Krudy, who are jointly responsible for the direction and script, also take on executive producer roles. This is in collaboration with Chris McCumber, Jeremy Gold, and Chris Dickie.”

As a fervent admirer, here’s my take on rephrasing: Peek at DeBose as the character called “Chef” and Moayed as Andreas, a restaurant patron, in the latest sneak peek. Additionally, there’s an image showcasing Hegedus’s culinary artistry, suggesting the final preparations of what seems to be a vegetable dish by the Chef.
