Prior to their separation in December 2011, after being together for five years, Gethin was well-known for his engagement to another Welsh singer, Katherine.

The Welsh broadcaster has been candid about how his agonizing split took a toll on him, resulting in a period of deep sadness (depression).

2023 saw Gethin openly discussing his struggles with mental health following a breakup. He confessed that he sought therapy as a means of coping and healing.

He shared on the Outdoors in Mind podcast, “During and after my engagement, it was incredibly difficult and awful.

At 5:30 a.m., I found myself on BBC Radio 5Live. In the middle of it all, I took a break to visit the restroom and told myself, “Alright, let’s concentrate for the next three hours. After that, you can return to feeling down again.

‘I definitely had a bad bout of depression during that time.’

Initially, I was counting on my friend to guide me, but they aren’t able to help in this situation. This might feel overwhelming for them, so try to find your own solution instead.

Eventually, Gethin disclosed that he sought counseling as a means to help him understand his emotions better: ‘I visited a professional, I underwent therapy for a couple of years, and I continue to study the subject.’

Gethin and Katherine first met in 2005 when she was a guest on Blue Peter, which he presented. 

Two years passed, at which point they reunited. During that time, he participated in Strictly Come Dancing, while she performed on the same program.

Then three years after that, he proposed – with a £10,000 ring during a romantic holiday in Mexico.

After what seemed like a fairy tale ending, the couple subsequently purchased an expansive eight-bedroom property for approximately £4.7 million, situated in the affluent district of Richmond, in South-West London.

But the engagement faltered after just ten months.

Although they haven’t provided an explanation, whispers point towards his career stagnating as hers flourished, and while he yearned for a family, she felt compelled to keep her musical momentum going.

In 2014, Katherine asserted that Gethin was the one who started their separation, just prior to her departure for a global tour.

She told Wales Online: “In late 2011, when Gethin and I split up, I found myself having to embark on a UK tour shortly after. Each night, I was singing songs of heartache, while every day I struggled to find the strength to carry on, let alone perform on stage and comprehend his motives.

In reality, though everyone seems to believe it was my choice, my aspiration, that I desired global domination, nothing could be further from the truth.

After their separation, Katherine got married to artist and filmmaker Andrew Levitas in the year 2014. Together they have two kids: Aaliyah Reign who is nine years old, and Xander Robert, who is seven.

However while Katherine has been married for over a decade, Gethin hasn’t been so lucky in love. 

In 2014, he shared with The Daily Mail that his current desire revolves around finding someone special, getting married, expanding the family, and fulfilling the role of a devoted father.

I’ve always been open about this issue, but the challenge lies in finding suitable companions. I tried joining yoga classes, assuming it might provide an opportunity to socialize with women, but striking up conversations while doing headstands can prove quite tricky.

It seemed to me that I’d be wedded already, given that we were engaged before. However, I understand that I can’t compel things to move forward. If fate has other plans, then it simply won’t transpire.

Gethin started seeing German lingerie model Katja Zwara, but they parted ways in 2018 following a year together. A source told The Sun that although they are still friends, their relationship didn’t turn out as planned in the long run.

‘They split last month and have gone their separate ways.’

In 2014, the celebrity was involved in a short-lived romance with reality TV personality Lucy Mecklenburgh. Afterward, they ended their relationship on friendly terms.

2023 saw speculations about his romantic involvement with First Dates star, Cici Coleman, as they were spotted attending a theater performance together, followed by drinks and dinner.

However, in an unexpected turn of events, I took to Instagram in April 2022 – four short months after the arrival of our precious little Elsie – to announce that he had chosen to leave our family home.

In her autobiography, “In My Stride,” Helen described her 2022 separation and how it took her by surprise: ‘I was stunned. Like many others who have gone through break-ups, I find myself saying I didn’t expect it, and it feels like a worn-out phrase, but that was my reality.’

After breaking up with Richie, Helen found herself too heartbroken to share the news with her parents immediately because she didn’t wish to cause them any unnecessary distress.

However, upon observing that she often spent significant time with her kids at their matrimonial residence, her father arranged an unexpected visit from Cumbria instead.

Helen penned: ‘He promptly intervened, understanding that I was in need of him, despite my reluctance to acknowledge it.’

After the separation, Richie has since added two more kids to his family with his new companion, Stephanie Thirkill.

34-year-old star rugby player has recently become a father for the second time, as he and his partner Stephanie welcomed their son Freddie in June of this year. The couple also have a daughter named Olivia, who joined their family back in May of 2023.

One year following their separation, it was reported that Helen had begun seeing someone new, as she endeavored to start anew and heal from the betrayal of trust inflicted upon her by Richie a year prior.

A source told OK! magazine: ‘She is now reluctantly dipping her toe back into the dating pool.

Following the betrayal, she’s far from prepared for a full-blown, long-lasting relationship. However, she’s no longer shutting herself off to new possibilities.

She’s always up for novel experiences across the board and strives to affirm more opportunities that ignite her enthusiasm.

Up until now, neither Helen nor Gethin’s representatives have provided comments regarding their relationship. However, individuals who attended the BAFTAs recently noted that their interactions appeared quite affectionate or touchy-feely.

According to a trusted TV insider, it’s widely believed that Helen and Gethin share a very strong professional bond, and there’s growing speculation that their friendship may have evolved into something more profound over the past few months.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but notice that they seem determined to maintain a low profile to ward off public gaze. However, it’s clear as day that their bond, whether on or off the screen, is undeniably strong.

Previously, the Welsh host openly showed respect for his fellow presenter following their participation in a 24-hour live telethon for Comic Relief not long ago.

After appearing on television in March, Gethin expressed his appreciation for Helen on social media. Not long after spending a full day with her, he reached out to her only an hour later.

In addition to some pictures of us cozied up during our TV binge, I wrote: “A small token of admiration for this extraordinary woman, @helenskelton. Incredible physical and mental strength…”
