Neon has unveiled the complete trailer for Arco, a beautifully animated time-travel story that feels like something from the studio of Hayao Miyazaki. Neon is aiming for a strong showing during awards season with several highly anticipated films, including Sentimental Value, It Was Just an Accident, No Other Choice, and The Secret Agent. However, viewers shouldn’t overlook Arco as a contender as well.
The company that created Anora is now handling the distribution of the French film Arco. The movie tells the story of Arco, a 10-year-old boy who journeys from a perfect future to a difficult world in 2075. He teams up with a girl named Iris and her robot helper, Mikki, to try and save the planet.
The English-dubbed version of Arco features the voices of Will Ferrell, America Ferrera, Flea, Natalie Portman, Mark Ruffalo, and Andy Samberg. After premiering at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2025 and winning the top prize at the Annecy animation festival, Arco will be shown in a limited number of U.S. theaters starting November 14th.
Neon has announced that the film will be released widely in early 2026. The movie was directed by Bienvenu and produced with Natalie Portman, Felix de Givry, and Sophie Mass. You can watch the new trailer for Arco below.
The trailer gives us a better look at the futuristic worlds of Arco and Iris, and how Arco ends up traveling to Iris’ time after a small act of defiance. Once there, he’s pursued by the authorities who are trying to find the strange boy who suddenly appeared. We also get a glimpse of how the main characters interact with each other.
Even though Arco is young, he’s wise enough to tell Iris she shouldn’t try to learn about the future, as she’s busy thinking deeply with Mikki. The film’s most memorable image – a rainbow trail Arco leaves when he flies – has become a symbol of the movie’s overall look and feel.
Arco will be shown in a limited number of theaters to qualify it for awards consideration, specifically aiming for a nomination for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards. Currently, KPop Demon Hunters is the clear frontrunner in this category, and it would take a significant upset for another film to win.
Despite the challenges, Arco has been a critical success, earning a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and being praised as one of the year’s best animated movies. It’s an impressive first film for director Bienvenu, and suggests this talented team will continue to create beloved animated films, potentially appealing to fans of Studio Ghibli and beyond.
