Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, the married couple who are both members of the band Arcade Fire, have separated.
Arcade Fire bandmates Win Butler and Régine Chassagne have announced they are separating after a long and loving marriage. The couple, who married in 2003, shared the news on social media Thursday. They will continue to co-parent their son and support each other, according to a statement from the band.
The Grammy-winning rock band, formed in 2001 and famous for hits like “The Suburbs” and “Wake Up,” has announced that its singers are splitting up. This news comes several years after allegations of sexual misconduct were made against the band’s frontman in 2022.

A new report details allegations of sexual misconduct against Arcade Fire’s Win Butler by four women. Butler claims any encounters were consensual.
As a film lover, I was really disturbed to read the Pitchfork report from August 2022. It detailed allegations against James Butler from four people. Three women came forward, claiming he engaged in sexual misconduct between 2016 and 2022, when they were young adults, between 18 and 23 years old. A fourth person, who identifies as gender-fluid, alleged they were sexually assaulted by him in 2015, when they were 21 and he was 34. It’s incredibly upsetting news, and it definitely impacts how I view his work.
So, this whole thing with Arcade Fire’s Win Butler came out, and Pitchfork published a report detailing some allegations. Butler responded by admitting to having relationships outside his marriage, but said they were consensual. It’s been really tough to read, especially because Régine Chassagne, his wife and bandmate who had their son in 2013, publicly defended him last year. She essentially said she knows his heart and is absolutely certain he would never do anything without someone’s full consent, and she doesn’t believe these accusations are true. It’s a really sad situation, and I admire her unwavering support despite everything.
You know, when I heard about everything, she actually said something really touching. She explained that he’d gone through a rough patch, kind of lost himself for a while, but he’d managed to get back on track. And she finished by saying she loves him and cherishes the life they’ve built together. It just felt so honest and real, you know?

Despite recent accusations of sexual misconduct and assault against Win Butler, Arcade Fire began its European tour on Tuesday with a performance in Dublin.
Arcade Fire became well-known in the 2000s with their powerful, singalong rock songs, becoming a key part of Montreal’s independent music community. Their 2010 album, “The Suburbs,” won a Grammy, and the band has received ten Grammy nominations overall. They’ve performed at major music festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza. Their seventh album, “Pink Elephant,” came out in May.
The statement released on Thursday confirmed that despite their separation, Régine Chassagne and Win Butler remain close creatively and that Arcade Fire will continue as a band. They also plan to keep working together on their charitable efforts and will continue to co-parent their child.
“The band send their love and look forward to seeing you all on tour soon,” the statement said.
