Throughout the movies, Frodo faced constant threats from huge spiders, man-eating orcs, and even the armies of Gondor. Like others before him, he was on the verge of being consumed by the Ring’s power, but he had a unique advantage that ultimately saved him from complete corruption, despite his own struggles.

Frodo’s journey was so deeply sad because he was never fully healed. Though he had beautiful moments with Sam and was ultimately saved by the Eagles, the Ring and the wounds he suffered left a permanent mark on his spirit. He could never truly return to who he was before.

As a huge movie fan, I always think about how different things could have been in Lord of the Rings if it wasn’t for those four Hobbits! Frodo couldn’t have done it alone, of course, but Merry, Pippin, and Sam were absolutely vital to his journey and destroying the Ring. Everyone recognized that at the coronation – even Aragorn! You could just feel the respect in the room as everyone bowed their heads to honor those four little guys, so far from home. It was a really powerful moment.

Aragorn’s respect for Frodo and his family was central to his character as king, and to the entire story. In a world facing overwhelming darkness and the risk of tyranny, it was an ordinary hero who made the ultimate sacrifice to save everyone. For centuries, different races like Elves, Humans, and Dwarves had struggled to defeat Sauron, but ultimately, it was the courage of an unlikely hero that made all the difference.

Peter Jackson didn’t ignore the long-lasting consequences of Frodo’s choices, and the films clearly show how those choices impacted him for the rest of his life. Despite the heavy themes, The Lord of the Rings is ultimately an uplifting story about the power of individuals to make a real difference. At its heart, the series demonstrates how strong friendships can overcome even the darkest of times, a message that continues to resonate with audiences today.

As Sam wisely said in The Two Towers, it’s the enduring stories that truly resonate with us.
