Apple TV is developing a new spy thriller to follow up its popular series, Slow Horses, and things are looking promising. Though Slow Horses only premiered in 2022, it’s quickly become recognized as one of the best spy thrillers ever made and stands out in the crowded world of streaming television.
Many streaming shows take years between seasons, but Slow Horses returns every year. It’s consistently one of Apple TV+’s best shows. And even with season 6 of Slow Horses on the horizon, Apple TV+ isn’t slowing down with its spy thrillers – a new series they have planned sounds very exciting.
Apple TV Is Moving Forward With Slow Horses’ Perfect Replacement
I’m hearing some exciting news out of Apple TV! According to Deadline, they’re developing a new spy thriller called Safe Houses, based on the novel by Dan Fesperman. What’s really interesting is that they’re positioning this as a successor to Slow Horses, and for good reason. The showrunner is Gideon Raff, who brought us the fantastic Homeland – he actually created Prisoners of War, the Israeli series Homeland was based on. So, if you’re a fan of smart, suspenseful espionage, Safe Houses definitely has the pedigree to deliver.
A recent report from Deadline is generating a lot of excitement for Safe Houses, a new spy thriller series in development at Apple TV+. Discussions are underway with Jennifer Connelly and Ana de Armas to lead the cast, potentially bringing the same star power and stability to the show that Gary Oldman has provided for Slow Horses.
The report states that Ana de Armas will play Sofia Jiménez, a secret agent who goes on the run after being accused of killing a top CIA official. Meanwhile, Matthew Connelly will portray Elizabeth Winthrop, the widow of the slain official. The film, Safe Houses, follows both women as they investigate the murder, uncovering a far-reaching global conspiracy along the way.
What Spy Thriller Series Help In The Wait For Slow Horses Season 6
As of today, Apple TV hasn’t announced a release date for the series Safe Houses. Although it appears to be a good fit for fans of Slow Horses – sharing a similar spy thriller style and mood – it will likely be a while before it premieres. In the meantime, there are other spy shows available to watch while we wait for season 6 of Slow Horses.
If you’re a fan of spy thrillers, recent series like The Agency and The Night Manager (on Prime Video), Unfamiliar (on Netflix), Ponies (on Peacock), and Tehran (on Apple TV) are all great options while you wait for the next season of Slow Horses. 2026 will bring new seasons of The Night Agent and Black Doves, among others. Even though Safe Houses isn’t coming out, fans of Slow Horses have plenty of other spy shows to enjoy.
