For a long time, science fiction readers have been hoping for a faithful book-to-screen adaptation. Although its fate is uncertain, the new cyberpunk series coming to Apple TV will offer a similarly expansive and intelligent world, satisfying fans in the meantime.
Apple TV has quickly become known for its high-quality science fiction series, and its newest show, Pluribus, is now its highest-rated sci-fi offering according to critics. But it seems Apple TV has even bigger plans to become a leader in science fiction television.
Apple TV+’s new sci-fi series is based on a classic cyberpunk novel and finally brings to life a long-awaited book adaptation that never happened before.
Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash Will Likely Get A TV Adaptation, But It Isn’t Happening Anytime Soon

Soon after Neal Stephenson’s novel Snow Crash was published in 1992, someone bought the rights to make it into a movie or TV show. However, the project never actually went into production. Over the years, various studios have owned the rights and discussed adapting the book, but it’s never gotten off the ground.
The rights to the project were once held by Amazon Studios and HBO Max, but have since returned to Paramount and Kennedy/Marshall. While its future isn’t clear, author Neal Stephenson mentioned in a CNBC interview that there’s strong interest in bringing it to life, which gives fans reason to be optimistic.
Apple TV’s Neuromancer Will Ease The Wait For Snow Crash

Both Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash and William Gibson’s Neuromancer are clearly connected as works of cyberpunk, despite having different writing styles. Neuromancer essentially established the core ideas of the genre, and Snow Crash built upon them, portraying a similar bleak, high-tech, low-life world. Just as Neuromancer has a digital world within its story, Snow Crash features its own version called The Metaverse.
As a huge cinema fan, I’ve always loved stories with compelling characters, and both Snow Crash and Neuromancer really deliver. You’ve got everything from these incredibly cool, almost mythical figures like the Street Samurai to hackers who aren’t quite heroes. What really strikes me is how both tales show these massive corporations secretly running the world. Snow Crash leans into the humor and goes all-out with its political ideas, but honestly, the upcoming Neuromancer adaptation from Apple TV feels like a great thing to look forward to while we wait!
Neuromancer’s Success On Apple TV Could Improve The Odds Of A Snow Crash TV Show

If the Apple TV+ series Neuromancer does well, Apple might adapt the other books in William Gibson’s series, Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive. Success could also inspire other streaming services to bring popular science fiction and cyberpunk novels, such as Snow Crash, to television.
Given Apple TV’s track record with successful science fiction shows, the upcoming adaptation of Neuromancer looks promising. It’s especially encouraging that William Gibson, the author of the novel, is actively involved in the production. Hopefully, it will become another hit sci-fi series for Apple TV and pave the way for a big-screen adaptation of Snow Crash.
