A new Apple TV show has been removed from the streaming service following claims that it copied material from another source, according to a recent report about the French thriller. Apple TV, like other streaming platforms, aims to provide unique and engaging content you won’t find anywhere else. However, one of their planned new shows is now facing issues due to these allegations.
Apple TV has pulled its upcoming French thriller, The Hunt, from its streaming service before its scheduled release on December 3rd. As reported by Apple Insider and originally noted by Clement Garin, the show’s creator, Cédric Anger, is facing accusations of plagiarism. The premise of The Hunt allegedly copies elements from Douglas Fairbairn’s 1973 novel, Shoot.
The report shows that the movie The Hunt has a very similar plot to Shoot. Both films center around a group of friends whose annual hunting trip takes a dark turn when they become the hunted. After one of them is hurt, the group tries to return to normal, but they all feel like they’re still being watched.

As a big cinema fan, I was really intrigued by the upcoming series, but it’s hit a snag. It turns out the book it’s based on, Shoot, was already made into a movie back in 1976. Now, there’s a lot of overlap between this story and another one called The Hunt, which has led Apple TV to pause the series while they look into claims of plagiarism. The production company, Gaumont, put out a statement to Variety explaining they’re taking these accusations very seriously and are fully investigating.
The premiere of our show, ‘The Hunt,’ has been delayed while we carefully review some concerns about the production. We are committed to protecting intellectual property and are taking this matter seriously.
The initial report indicates Apple only became aware of the plagiarism claims after the show had already been heavily advertised. Additionally, those involved with the production – both cast and crew – are reportedly prohibited from discussing the series. Now that the crime thriller has been removed from streaming, questions arise about the project’s future if the accusations prove to be accurate.
It’s currently unclear how Apple and Gaumont will respond if the claims of plagiarism are proven true. The show Shoot centers around a hunting group that kills a member of another group while defending themselves. The main character, Rex, believes they’ll be hunted in return and goes back to the original location to face his pursuers.
Apple TV has delayed releasing shows before in 2025. Back in September, the crime thriller The Savant was taken off the schedule without any official reason. Some people thought the delay was connected to the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, given the show’s storyline about Jessica Chastain’s character going undercover in online hate groups.
Although Shoot and The Hunt have some distinctions, they both start with a comparable idea. The show’s future hinges on the findings of the investigation by Apple TV and Gaumont; it could be delayed, as happened with The Savant, or even canceled altogether. However, since the investigation is just beginning, a final decision is probably still a ways off.
