As a lifelong sci-fi enthusiast who has seen more than my fair share of interdimensional portals, time warps, and parallel universes on the small screen, I couldn’t be more thrilled to hear that Apple TV+’s Dark Matter is returning for a second season!

As a passionate sci-fi enthusiast, let me share some exhilarating news that’s going to make your day shine brighter than a star in the cosmos! Apple TV+ has greenlit another season for our beloved series, “Dark Matter”. That’s right, you heard it correctly. We’re getting a second season of “Dark Matter”! Can you believe it? This news is as electrifying as the energy pulsating through the engines of my starship. The universe of “Dark Matter” expands further, and I can hardly wait to dive back into the mysteries that lie ahead!

According to a statement released by Apple TV+, this is what the show’s creator, Blake Crouch, had to share regarding the renewal of the series:

Thanks to everyone who tuned-in for season one—book fans and new fans—and of course our partners at Apple and Sony, my amazing producing partner, Matt Tolmach, our tremendous cast and crew, and the great city of Chicago—you were so good to us. In the process of writing and filming season one, we discovered that there’s so much more story to tell, and we’ve only scratched the surface of these characters as they fight for survival and to find their way home through a landscape of mind-bending realities. See you in the Box!

The head of programming at Apple TV+, Matt Cherniss, is thrilled about the opportunity to collaborate once more with Crouch and the entire creative team behind the show, as they embark on creating season 2 of “Dark Matter.”

The thought-provoking and gripping ‘Dark Matter’ has quickly become a global hit, capturing audiences’ imaginations and making it a beloved and integral part of Apple’s world class sci-fi line up. We are thrilled to continue our collaboration with Blake Crouch, our partners at Sony and the rest of the creative team and cast — led by the remarkable Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly — on a new season that will captivate viewers with more twists and turns as we dive deeper into the mysteries of the multiverse.

Similar to many contemporary TV series, “Dark Matter” is adapted from a pre-existing work. Specifically, it’s adapted from the 2016 novel of the same name penned by renowned author Blake Crouch, who also conceived the science fiction series. As previously stated, Crouch was instrumental in its creation. The first season comprises nine episodes and debuted with the first two episodes on Apple TV+ streaming service on May 8. From then on, a new episode was released every Wednesday until the season finale on June 26.

Many people, including critics and viewers, have praised the first season, often describing it as one of the top TV shows for the year. Interestingly, Dark Matter is currently garnering an 83% rating from both professional reviewers (Tomatometer score) and the audience (Audience Score) on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s truly remarkable!

The narrative unfolds in the bustling cityscape of Chicago. Our protagonist, physicist and loving father Jason Dessen, is unexpectedly kidnapped on his way home from a friend’s gathering at a bar, by an unknown assailant wearing a mask. After being knocked unconscious, Jason regains consciousness to discover that he’s in an alternate version of his life. With his family in peril in his real world, Jason must act swiftly to locate a means to return and protect them.

In this production, Joel Edgerton – who has been nominated for a Golden Globe and is known for roles such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Loving, and The Stranger – takes on the main character, Jason Dessen. Meanwhile, Jennifer Connelly, an Academy Award winner recognized in Snowpiercer and Top Gun: Maverick, portrays his wife, Daniela Dessen. Additionally, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi, Oakes Fegley, and other talented actors are part of the cast.
