As a long-time Apex Legends player, I’m deeply disappointed and frustrated with EA’s recent decision to change the Battle Pass system. The community’s reaction has been swift and intense, with thousands of negative reviews flooding Steam in response. I’ve sunk hundreds of hours into this game, and the thought of having to pay $20 for each Battle Pass is a hard pill to swallow.
The community aren’t happy, and the reviews show it.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve noticed that the Steam community feedback for Apex Legends has taken a turn for the worse. The Battle Pass updates that were recently announced have sparked intense reactions from players, resulting in an overwhelmingly negative review section on the platform.
As an avid fan of Apex Legends, I was excited to hear about the upcoming changes in the game’s Battle Pass system announced by EA last week. Instead of having one Battle Pass per season as we’ve had before, we will now be getting two Battle Passes each season, both requiring a purchase. This means that instead of using Apex Coins to buy the pass, we’ll need to pay $9.99 in real money for each pass, adding up to $20 per season.
Apex Legends is undergoing a massive wave of negative reviews aimed at influencing Electronic Arts (EA) to reconsider their upcoming Battle Pass adjustments.
Apex Legends players leave negative reviews in response to Battle Pass changes
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve noticed a concerning trend with Apex Legends on Steam. With thousands of negative reviews stacked up, it’s hard not to take notice. What piqued my interest even further was discovering, through steamdb, that no positive reviews have been recorded since the Battle Pass updates were announced.

The Apex review backlash continues unabated. Just over a week since the announcement, unfavorable feedback persists, resulting in an increasing number of negative reviews. Although the total count isn’t substantial, the “Overwhelmingly Negative” label on Steam for Apex Legends may cause concern for EA.
Apex player numbers keep dropping
Amidst growing dissatisfaction among Apex Legends players, the number of people playing the game has been steadily decreasing since the beginning of 2024, with the exception of February. This was when the significant Season 20 update was launched, bringing an overhaul of EVO Shields and a new Perks system.

Since then, the number of players on Apex has decreased each month. Even in May 2024, there was a slight drop, despite the release of Season 21. It’s troubling that this new season failed to attract more players with its fresh content.
