So, after that whole cheating mess at the 33rd SEA Games, it turns out Tokyogurl and Cheerio are actually getting charged with crimes. Apparently, they’re being accused of breaking Thailand’s computer laws because of what happened. It’s pretty serious stuff, way beyond just getting disqualified from the game.
After a cheating scandal at the 33rd SEA Games in 2025, professional Arena of Valor player Napapat “Tokyogurl” Warasin from Thailand is facing criminal charges. She was arrested for arranging a scheme where someone else played the game for her, with help from her boyfriend, during the esports competition.
The situation quickly escalated into a legal battle. Thai authorities have determined the action also breaks the country’s Computer Crime Act, which could lead to imprisonment, fines, and a criminal record for everyone involved, on top of their existing esports ban.
Thai authorities crack down on Tokyogurl and Cheerio
Thai police launched an investigation, called “Operation Ghost Buster,” focusing on Tokyogurl. This came after authorities discovered evidence of a coordinated cheating scheme connected to the Thai national women’s Arena of Valor (AoV) team.
Wow, this whole thing is way bigger than just some cheating! It turns out it’s a full-blown crime that’s really damaged the reputation of our sports scene. I was shocked to hear that Tokyogurl and Cheerio were actually arrested on February 4th, 2026, after the police investigated. They even had a search warrant and found evidence – things like chat logs – proving they did something wrong. Apparently, Tokyogurl said she was promised a new iPhone if the team won gold at the SEA Games, but if they lost, they’d barely get enough to cover rent or gas. It’s just crazy to think about how much pressure was on them!
Police have arrested Tokyogurl and her accomplice, Cheerio, a former professional gamer. Investigations show they worked together to cheat during the 33rd Sea Games, with Cheerio secretly playing on Tokyogurl’s Arena of Valor account. Reports indicate Tokyogurl was paying Cheerio between 300 and 500 baht (about $10 to $16) for each gaming session.
Tokyogurl reportedly asked Cheerio to play some matches for her, while she played in others. They supposedly shared login details over Discord, but a technical problem prevented them from carrying out this plan during the second round against Vietnam. This unusual activity was noticed by the referees, and Tokyogurl received a penalty. Cheerio later admitted on TikTok that he had played those matches in her place.
Tokyogurl and Cheerio to receive criminal charges due to violating Thailand’s Computer Crime Act
The cheating incident has escalated into a criminal investigation. Police Lieutenant Colonel Kamnuan stated the investigation proved violations of Esports Technical Handbook Rule 9.5.3, which prohibits accessing accounts without permission and using cheats or software to improve performance during competitions.
In addition to the ruling regarding the SEA Games, the pair also broke Thailand’s Computer Crime Act, which could result in up to two years in prison and a fine of as much as 40,000 baht (around $1,286 USD). The case has been formally charged in court, and a final verdict for Tokyogurl and Cheerio is scheduled for March 17, 2026.
What is the Thailand Computer Crime Act?
The Computer Crime Act (CCA) is a law designed to stop people from hacking into accounts, getting around security systems, or tampering with computers to cheat or gain an unfair benefit. It’s meant to safeguard both personal and official online systems from being misused or used for fraudulent activities.
The situation with Tokyogurl at the 33rd SEA Games isn’t just about breaking tournament rules; it involves illegal activity. Tokyogurl and Cheerio illegally accessed secure computer systems, which is a crime in Thailand. They didn’t just share private information like her account login; they also bypassed the security measures put in place by the tournament organizers.
Adding to the problem, Tokyogurl was officially representing Thailand in a sporting event. Her behavior broke the competition’s rules and damaged the country’s image and standing on the world stage.
