Antonio Banderas reveals cut Paddington 3 musical credit scene

As a die-hard fan who has eagerly awaited every Paddington movie since its inception, I can say that the anticipation for “Paddington in Peru” has reached new heights with the revelation of the potential musical number by Antonio Banderas. Having watched him grace our screens with his enchanting performances in countless films, I can only imagine the magic he would have brought to a Paddington musical number. Alas, it seems we’ll have to wait for another day, as the team ran out of time and budget to make it happen.

Everyone seems captivated by Phoenix Buchanan’s performance of “Rain on the Roof” during the end credits in Paddington 2, and another contender for the spotlight might have been Paddington in Peru.

In the latest film, Olivia Colman’s character, the Reverend Mother, is already featured in a musical sequence. However, Antonio Banderas hinted to Digital Spy that discussions took place regarding his performance of an additional musical number in the end credits scene.

He mentioned to Digital Spy that at some juncture, there was a proposal for an ensemble musical scene involving all the characters, given his multiple roles as ancestors of Hunter Cabot in the film.

Eventually, for some reason – whether it was a lack of time, funds, or changed plans – the project didn’t move forward. Truth be told, I would have been delighted to contribute, as I am quite fond of musicals and believe they are a stunning artistic expression.

During an exclusive chat with Digital Spy, producer Rosie Alison admitted that they simply didn’t have enough time to film the specified credit scene.

It seems as though waiting until the credits finish rolling might be a good idea, since there was another interesting credit scene that we wanted to let you appreciate.

Despite Hunter Cabot not making a surprise appearance in the closing credits, Banderas still enjoys a playful journey throughout the film as he delves into the diverse lineage of his character, creating some distinct and entertaining scenes during the movie’s production.

He found it quite enjoyable to experience being on both sides of the situation. At times, he even felt like he was hitting and slapping himself in disbelief, as he had to portray both roles without any other actors present.

Initially, I was working on it alone, but later, they took care of the opposite side and somehow connected me to it. To be honest, I’m not sure how they managed it, but it felt like they were hitting me gently from inside.

Initially, it was planned for Rachel Zegler to portray Hunter’s daughter Gina, but she had to withdraw from the project due to the 2023 strikes. Instead, Carla Tous stepped into the role and quickly formed a strong connection with her on-screen father.

As I looked into their eyes, it seemed destiny had brought us together. Our shared passion for musicals sparked a connection – a love so deep for these theatrical masterpieces that it felt like we were kindred spirits. And there she was, revealing this very fact about us.

Moreover, not only is he an extraordinary individual, but also a brilliant actor. It was effortless to convince the audience that we were a father and daughter.

Prior to the film’s premiere, Hugh Bonneville discussed with Digital Spy the seven-year gap leading up to “Paddington in Peru”, while the cast commented on Emily Mortimer’s assumption of the role of Mrs Brown.

Paddington in Peru is released in UK cinemas on November 8 and in US cinemas on January 17, 2025.
