Antoni Gaudí’s Batlló Chair Gets Limited Reissue by BD Barcelona & CASA VALLE for NYCxDesign

BD Barcelona has collaborated with CASA VALLE, the studio of Giancarlo Valle and Jane Keltner de Valle, to replicate a limited edition of 50 pieces of Antoni Gaudí’s Batlló Chair. This chair was originally created for the dining room of Casa Batlló between 1904 and 1906. The unique collection, finished in an enduring ebony stain, is currently being displayed alongside other items from BD’s Gaudí Collection at CASA VALLE gallery during NYCxDesign.

Although this piece was created during the early 20th century, its unique style mirrors the “Modernisme” language, a Catalan artistic movement closely linked to Art Nouveau’s groundbreaking style at the time. Gaudí’s fanciful and breathtaking designs are crucial to the movement, marked by sweeping curves, slender profiles, and organic influences, much like the iconic chair. By preserving the essence of Gaudí’s design philosophy, the chair’s aged finish gives it a modern twist.

As per BD Barcelona, each chair is a precise replica of the original, skillfully crafted by artisans in Barcelona. This piece comes with a certificate bearing the signature of Gaudí Cathedra, ensuring its authenticity. The Gaudí Collection from this Spanish furniture retailer falls under their Art Editions initiative, which concentrates on unique, collectible limited editions such as the renowned designs by Salvador Dalí.

As an admirer, I’d express it like this: “I find myself deeply moved by CASA VALLE’s perspective on Gaudí’s work. They believe that his unique blend of modernism resonates profoundly with today’s world. In their words, they aim to reinterpret this captivating tale amidst the current zeitgeist, and forge connections between it and the vibrant creativity blooming in New York, while also envisioning what lies ahead.

Inquiring individuals are welcome to contact BD Barcelona for additional details regarding the exclusive, limited-run product launch. From May 15th through the 21st, a collection of 50 ebony editions will be displayed at CASA VALLE’s location on 50 Lispenard Street.
