Antiques Expert Michael Baggott’s Heartbreaking Final Post Before tragic Death
Michael Baggott, known for his role on the show “Flog It!”, posted a sequence of sorrowful messages on social media only a few days prior to his untimely passing at the age of 51.
On Monday evening, it was officially confirmed via his social media platforms that the antique appraiser from the BBC passed away in the hospital following a heart attack. He had been in the hospital since experiencing a stroke back in October.
Deeply saddened to announce that Michael passed away in the hospital yesterday due to a heart attack, which followed a stroke he experienced in October. The message conveyed.
‘He was a cherished family member, from son to brother, nephew, and uncle. His absence will be felt deeply and significantly. A memorial service is planned for later on, and we’ll post the specifics here when they become available.’
His last post, dated December 29, was a critique of an episode of Antiques Roadshow. In it, he expressed his disagreement with an expert’s assessment: ‘The expert stated these items were made in London in 1758. However, they possess the date letter for 1762 cast upon them. It seems this can be tolerated once I am deceased, but not before #AntiquesRoadshow.’
During the weeks preceding Christmas, the star frequently posted on Twitter while enjoying his preferred antique television programs.

He humorously commented on his health while imparting knowledge to his followers in a December 10 tweet, saying: “Significant life events can bring about a fresh perspective, tranquility, kindness, and a distinct mental shift… However, you’d need to flatten me multiple times with a steamroller before I’d even consider accepting £6-800 for this!” He also included a picture from Antiques Roadshow.
Today’s post is filled with sadness: ‘It’s just possible that a shooting star may descend on Christmas Day, landing directly in the hospital room I’m occupying. Here’s hoping for miracles.’
On December 23rd, he posted an old picture on social media with his sister, reminiscing about joyful moments from the past.
From his hospital bed, Birmingham native Michael shared an emotional video with fans, expressing his concern that he might suddenly pass away.
Initially in December, Michael’s supporters felt anxious when he posted a sequence of videos from his hospital room.
As a connoisseur of timeless treasures and lifestyle enthusiast, I find myself compelled to share a personal update with my cherished followers. For the past five weeks, I’ve found myself under the exceptional care at Good Hope Hospital in Birmingham, following an unexpected encounter with a stroke. Rest assured, I am receiving top-notch attention and making remarkable strides towards recovery.
On several concerning videos posted to his account X, he asserted that he barely received any water and was experiencing intense dehydration.
Over the past week, he’s been recording himself saying: “I’ve managed to drink liquids for two days now. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any water at all, leading to severe dehydration.

For the past three days, I’ve been consuming a liter of water daily, but it hasn’t been enough to prevent me from feeling dehydrated.
The periods without receiving intravenous water have been 15 hours, followed by 17 hours, another 12 hours, and now it’s been 15 hours again since the last administration of water intravenously.
He stated, “I’m severely dehydrated in a UK National Health Service hospital, yet I can’t find anyone who’s willing to address this issue.
In simpler terms, I’d like to express that the nursing team and the junior doctors here have been our lifeline. They are eager to assist, yet find themselves unable to do so. On the other hand, the upper management and senior doctors, who seldom appear, consistently deny resources and treatment options.
Yesterday, someone warned me that if I didn’t improve my ideas quickly, I wouldn’t be able to walk in three weeks. Although the junior staff disagreed and called it nonsense, it reflects the kind of treatment I receive here.
‘All the staff are busting their gut to help you, the management and the senior surgeons are not.’
In the comments, it was explained that he had been bedridden for a full five days. Subsequently, another post was made 24 hours later, expressing feelings of increased happiness and optimism.
In the video, he expressed: ‘At long last, I’m hydrated with Radio 3 playing in the background, feeling a bit more cheerful and optimistic. A big thank you to everyone who attended or reached out. Here’s hoping our journey toward recovery begins now.’

TopMob contacted Good Hope Hospital for comment at the time.
Bargain Hunt and Antiques Roadshow star Charles Hanson was among those paying tribute.
Farewell to @baggottsilver, an extraordinary figure in the antiques world. Known as our own ‘Arthur Negus’, Michael was never shy about correcting even the experts when they were mistaken, including myself. His passion for understanding the hidden stories of objects was unparalleled and warranted more screen time to truly recognize him as a true expert.
I’m truly saddened to hear this. Michael was an authentic expert and a beloved figure in the antique community, brimming with wisdom and always eager to share it. He was a captivating storyteller and simply a wonderful individual – it was a delight knowing him, Michael.
BBC Presenter Roo Irvine tweeted: ‘Such sad news… condolences to Michael’s family.’
Colin Young expressed his condolences by saying: ‘I’m truly sorry to learn about this unfortunate event. Michael had the power to bring joy to countless individuals, and I can’t imagine a greater blessing than that.’
TV specialist David Harper expressed on Twitter, ‘Very unfortunate, he was an enthusiastic, captivating, and intelligent individual, whose absence will be felt.’
Michael, who hails from a family of wholesale market merchants, is well-known for his frequent appearances on BBC One’s Flog It. His areas of expertise are diverse, encompassing antique silver, intricate smallwork, decorative boxes, early spoons, as well as silver from provincial and continental regions.
As a budding enthusiast during my school years, I stumbled upon an exquisite find – a vintage Chester silver Vesta case, which I acquired for a mere £22. This antique treasure kick-started my lifelong passion for unique, timeless pieces that have since adorned my collection.

Throughout his distinguished academic journey, he simultaneously gained work experience at the renowned auction house Christie’s, and upon completing his studies, he spent four years as head of the southern silver department at Sotheby’s. Subsequently, he shifted to a consulting role in the private sector.
Apart from being a skilled writer, he had authored several books about silver, including “An Illustrated Guide to York Hallmarks 1776-1858”, which is one of his published pieces in this area.
For more than two decades, “Flog It!” has been a beloved fixture on daytime TV, where people bring their cherished items to be appraised by a group of knowledgeable professionals since its debut in 2002.
Instead, it was canceled in 2018 to accommodate six fresh commission slots aimed at modernizing the daytime lineup.
About a year ago, Michael found himself in the middle of a rumor claiming he had passed away. To clear up this misunderstanding, he had to assure his fans that he was still alive and thriving. He humorously addressed this false news on his official platform (previously known as Twitter), by re-sharing the story, adding: “What stings is the ‘Vintage Specialist’ part… I’m not dead yet.
