Channel 5 offers a sneak peek at the upcoming detective drama, “Murder by Evensong,” led by popular Harry Potter actor, Matthew Lewis.
In the upcoming fall, I’ll be diving into a new TV show that’s adapted from the initial installment of Reverend Richard Coles’ beloved mystery series, the Canon Clement Mysteries – a series that has topped best-seller lists!
Written by Nick Hicks-Beach, best known for his work on shows like “EastEnders” and “Midsomer Murders,” this six-part drama will trace the life of Canon Daniel Clement (Lewis), the Reverend of Champton. His tranquil lifestyle is disrupted when an unsettling murder occurs, adding an unexpected twist to his otherwise peaceful existence.

According to a summary from Channel 5, character Daniel (played by Lewis) resides at Champton rectory alongside his widowed mom Audrey (portrayed by Amanda Redman), as well as their two dachshunds named Cosmo and Hilda.
Upon Daniel’s proposal for revitalizing the church, an unexpected division arises within the congregation. Subsequently, a body is discovered at the church’s rear.

With the authorities intervening and fatalities mounting, it falls upon Daniel to attempt to mend the splintered society… while tracking down a murderer.
In addition to the main actors, Amit Shah, Adam James, Marion Bailey, Tamzin Outhwaite, and Francis Magee will join, with a supporting cast consisting of Meghan Treadway, Alexander Delamain, Amanda Hadingue, and Nina Toussaint-White.
As Lewis, who’s no stranger to the magical world of Hogwarts thanks to my role as Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter movies, I’ve found myself quite busy lately. Recently, I’ve been seen gracing the screens in shows like Happy Valley, All Creatures Great and Small, and Avoidance.

In a recent discussion about his new venture, Lewis expressed great enthusiasm, stating that he feels “incredibly excited to don the familiar collar once more and delve into the captivating universe crafted by Reverend Richard Coles.
For quite a while, I’ve been captivated by his writing, particularly the characters and narratives he creates. It’s truly a privilege to collaborate with such a talented group and portray the character of Canon Clement for both devoted readers and new spectators. (Actor’s statement as reported by Deadline)
Murder by Evensong will premiere on Channel 5 in the autumn.
The latest print issue from Digital Spy, titled “Oasis – Live in ’25”, is available! You can purchase it at your local newsstands or online for only £8.99.
