Anthony Albanese’s wife Jodie Haydon stuns fashion critics by choosing VERY alternative designers to create her wedding dress – as the secret Aussie tribute hidden in the gown is revealed

As a lifestyle expert, I have to say, Jodie Haydon is really shaking things up! She’s turned heads by picking two up-and-coming, totally unexpected designers to make her wedding dress. It’s a bold move that’s definitely got everyone talking, and I love that she’s going for something different!

Ms. Haydon and Anthony Albanese got married this weekend in a small, private ceremony at The Lodge in Canberra.

The Prime Minister’s new wife walked down the aisle in an ivory gown by Romance Was Born. 

Designers Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales, a unique pair based in Sydney, create the brand. They’re famous for using bright colors, dramatic silhouettes, and cutting-edge styles in their fashion shows.

Everyone was surprised by Ms. Haydon’s outfit choice, as most people expected her to wear something from a more traditional designer like Carla Zampatti or Paolo Sebastian.

The gown itself was far more understated than the label’s usual creations. 

It featured long buttoned sleeves, a fitted bodice and soft structured lines.

But it still carried the signature Romance Was Born touch.

The fabric featured beautiful, intricate embroidery, with a small golden wattle design subtly woven into the pattern.

The dress featured a subtle nod to the golden wattle, Australia’s national flower, serving as a meaningful and symbolic detail.

Her decision also made sense to those who know the Prime Minister.

Anthony Albanese frequently highlights his background growing up in Sydney’s inner-west, and choosing a trendy, local fashion brand was a natural extension of that personal brand.

Even the couple’s dog, Toto, got in on the fun, wearing a tiny dress that fit the wedding’s cheerful style.

Jodie has worn several Australian designers before.

She’s worn stunning gowns before, including a beautiful Paolo Sebastian dress at the White House and a vibrant red Carla Zampatti outfit that turned heads at the Midwinter Ball.

Haydon hinted at getting married before the end of the year in a February interview with Australian Women’s Weekly.

The couple described their ideal wedding as a small, private event, hopefully held outside later this year, and shared with close family and friends.

The couple also shared how challenges of the top job affected their relationship.

They pointed out that the challenges of frequent travel or long work hours were similar to those faced by shift workers and people in fly-in, fly-out jobs.

The couple said they ‘made the most of their time together’ when their work commitments allowed.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe how amazing this is! So, back in 2020, the Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, was at this conference, right? And he jokingly asked if anyone there supported the South Sydney Rabbitohs – my team! – and honestly, I just had to yell out ‘Up the Rabbitohs!’ It was instinct! He actually noticed me! It’s the best story ever, and I’m still buzzing about it. Seriously, a direct interaction with Albo because of my unwavering support for the Bunnies? Dream come true!

He later introduced himself and they decided to go for a drink when they were back in Sydney.

He wooed her with a night out at the Young Henrys brewery in Newtown.

The next year, he was severely injured in a car accident in Marrickville, Sydney. Another vehicle, a Range Rover, had swerved into his lane and collided with his car.

Ms Haydon got a call and raced to the scene to see the car written off, but Albanese alive.

‘I saw the mess of a car before I saw him and thought ‘he couldn’t survive this’,’ she  said.

It was terrifying, and in that instant, I truly understood how deeply I cared for them – the thought of losing them was overwhelming.

‘As I jumped in the ambulance and saw Anthony, I knew then the depth of my feelings towards him.’
