The cast of Married At First Sight 2025 have often sparked dating rumors, but Awhina Rutene‘s recent posts on social media have really gotten people talking.
A 31-year-old woman who recently appeared on a reality dating show was seen holding hands with another contestant, Dave Hand, in Perth, leading to speculation they may be a couple after the show ended.
A video shared online over the weekend showed Awhina and Dave looking happy together, walking hand-in-hand. Awhina was dressed in a white tank top and high-waisted jeans.
The video immediately caused a stir online, and many people began to wonder if Awhina is now dating the ex-husband of her best friend Jamie Marinos’ former partner.
However, the reality star has explained that the interaction was just friendly and there was nothing more to it.
She explained on her Instagram stories that Dave is a friend and that the video was part of a popular TikTok trend highlighting height differences.
Look, everyone saw how close I was to Dave on set, and we had a great connection. But I want to be clear – I’m single right now, and honestly, I’m really happy being on my own. I’m not looking for anything else at the moment.
The post appeared as rumors spread that she and Dave had become more than friends after working together. Fans noticed a connection between them in footage from the set.
Billy Belcher, who had briefly been romantically interested in Awhina after the experiment, also seemed to share a mysterious message.
An English tradesman posted a picture on social media of an unidentified woman with brown hair walking on a Perth beach, and asked his followers if it was a ‘soft launch’ – a subtle way of revealing a new relationship – with a simple ‘Yes/No’ poll.
People noticed when Billy posted, and many think it was a veiled response to a video Awhina shared.
This surprising encounter happened shortly after Billy was seen kissing a woman with a large bust in Bali, only a few days after Awhina returned to Perth from the same location.
Awhina was staying with a 32-year-old tradesman who has tattoos. They were at his luxurious home, celebrating his birthday.
Billy was spotted packing on the PDA with a mystery blonde at a local Bali nightclub in July.
Oh my god, I’ve seen the video! Apparently, the Daily Mail got hold of it, and it’s… well, it’s him! He was totally dancing super close with this other woman in a club – like, *really* close. They were grinding and basically all over each other! It was dark, but you could still see everything. I can’t believe it!
Billy, wearing a large red and white jersey with the number 07 and a backwards cap, was dancing and getting close to a blonde woman in a short, black dress with an open back. They held hands and seemed very comfortable with each other.
At one point, the pair appeared to share a kiss on the dancefloor.
An onlooker told Daily Mail: ‘They were all over each other. No attempt to hide it.’
When asked about a possible romance with Billy, Awhina told the Daily Mail they were simply friends.
The two confirmed in a video that they’ve ended their romantic relationship and are now just close friends.
During the show, Awhina and Billy connected because they both went through difficult times related to a very public scandal. Awhina’s partner, Adrian, and his wife, Sierah, had been secretly flirting with each other, causing a lot of drama.
After the show ended, their friendship grew stronger, and they were seen holding hands during a romantic walk on the beach on Valentine’s Day.
Billy joined Awhina for her 31st birthday, along with her twin sister Cleo, and they went on a few dates while in Perth.
Despite this, Awhina repeatedly described the relationship as ‘purely platonic’.
In early June, the couple quietly revealed they were dating by sharing a sweet photo collection on Instagram with the caption, ‘I’m keeping this one.’
They officially went public soon after.
Awhina went on to introduce Billy to her son, Landon, which was a significant moment considering they met while working on the film.
Viewers had often commented on the strong connection between Awhina and Billy, and many believed the Married at First Sight experts made a mistake by not matching them together initially.
