Another classic horror is getting a “radical” remake – but there’s reasons to be excited

Another classic horror is getting a new version. This time around, we’re going back to Amityville.

According to Deadline, it’s been announced that the creative forces behind “Heart Eyes” (Divide/Conquer) and “Barbarian” (BoulderLight Pictures) will collaborate on the upcoming movie production.

This movie isn’t a re-creation of the 1979 film “The Amityville Horror,” nor any of its subsequent films, or the original 1977 book with the same title.

I’m diving deep into an entirely fresh take on this game, tracing it back to the chilling tales of alleged supernatural occurrences that were the roots of the original story. It’s going to be a mind-blowing journey!

The novelty of the approach makes it something to look forward to, and so does the fact that both “Heart Eyes” and “Barbarian” have received impressive 78% and 92% positive reviews from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, the selection of directors appears encouraging because the two production firms have secured Joseph and Vanessa Winter, a married couple, to not only direct but also pen the script for the movie.

Previously, this pair was responsible for penning and guiding the 2022 film, the blend of horror and comedy titled ‘Deadstream’. This production boasts an impressive 92% positive rating in reviews from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

In a review by Digital Spy for the film Barbarian, it was labeled as the top horror movie of the year upon release. The delight of the film lies in its ability to repeatedly surprise the viewers, offering unexpected twists and turns one after another.

Simultaneously, IndieWire praised Deadstream for its sharp script, superb acting, and delightfully disgusting creature effects. Meanwhile, RogerEbert.com acknowledged the movie’s unwavering commitment to its absurdly entertaining premise.

The new Amityville film is set to go into production later this year.

As an enthusiast, I can’t help but share the excitement that Digital Spy’s latest print issue has arrived! Grab a copy of “Oasis – Live in ’25” from your local newsagents or conveniently online for only £8.99. Enjoy the legendary performances by one of the greatest bands in music history!
