Anora star Mikey Madison breaks a golden rule of Hollywood with bold career decision after Oscar win

Anora star Mikey Madison is breaking the world’s expectations of a typical Hollywood actress.

Typically, stars are seen at film premieres, parties, and have an active presence on social media. However, Mikey seems to be choosing a different route.

The Academy Award-winning individual, at the age of 26, disclosed that they don’t have any presence on social media platforms and have no regrets about missing out on parties.

In an interview with Vogue Italy, a young actress (now the ninth-youngest recipient of the Best Actress Oscar) expressed her tendency towards solitude and the stress she experiences due to the need to be more sociable to meet public expectations.

She shared with the magazine that she’s deeply introverted yet harbors a strong craving for exciting new experiences. This internal struggle has long been present in her life, but it’s become more intense recently.

The interviewer noted a division in the world between those who appreciate Mikey and those who don’t know her. In response, she expressed a feeling of change all around her, which seems to be intensifying her desire for solitude.

It feels like I’ve started noticing how others see me. Even though I don’t use social media and I’ve never regretted missing a gathering, it seems society is making me question if I’m doing too much to be happy or fair. We sometimes put on masks to make others feel at ease.

During her childhood years, Mikey was generally timid and sought comfort in animals. This unexpected development, her passion for acting, took her mother by surprise.

In her conversation with the publication, she shared that as an experienced equestrian competitor, I frequently attended horse shows. On a particular day returning home, she broke down in tears; it struck her that perhaps she no longer belonged in that world.

When I shared with my mother that I aspired to become an actress, she was taken aback and exclaimed, “So you’re considering joining local acting workshops?” She found it hard to believe. At the time, I was extremely shy, almost exclusively communicating with animals rather than people. Yet, acting was all I could think about. After a heartfelt emotional revelation from me, she agreed, “Alright, let’s give this a shot.” And so, I embarked on my acting journey.

Born and bred in the San Fernando Valley, which is not Hollywood but adjacent to it, our upcoming sensation spent her childhood days amidst suburban tranquility. She delighted in scaling trees with her brother and hunting for snails as pastimes.

‘Growing up, I had a typical family life as none of us are involved in entertainment. However, both my parents have unique talents – Dad is an artist and chef but has the mind of a psychologist, while Mom is like a casting director who took me to more than a hundred auditions and helped me learn my lines.’

Mikey has kept a relatively low-profile since earning her Oscar.

In recent times, I’ve been keeping a relatively low profile on the party scene. Despite gracing the stage as a Saturday Night Live host in April, alongside musical artist Morgan Wallen, and attending a couple of events for Tiffany’s jewelry line, I’ve chosen to maintain a more intimate social circle.

In an unexpected turn of events, Mikey managed to clinch the Oscar over Demi Moore, who was initially favored to receive the award, marking what could have been her debut as an Academy Award winner.

On the day after the Oscars, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress expressed praise for Demi, mentioning that she had reached out to the actress from Striptease following her win.)

I had a chat with Demi, whom I truly appreciate. She’s one of the most gentle and wonderful ladies I’ve ever encountered, and I feel fortunate to have met her and witnessed her extraordinary skills and talent up close. I admire her deeply and can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next, what captivating characters she will portray. I believe we’re all eager and excited to follow her journey.

Since the Academy Awards, she’s been connected to various upcoming movies, such as potentially starring in the follow-up to The Social Network.

It’s reported by Variety that she unexpectedly declined a role in an upcoming Star Wars movie, which is unidentified as of yet.

Despite not being involved in any films, the actress emphasizes that she experiences a strong magnetic attraction or pull towards a role she might take on for a movie.

She shared with THR: “I’m not sure yet. However, I aim to carry on collaborating with intriguing individuals. This line of work is deeply emotional, so I need to genuinely feel that strong attraction, like ‘I must do this,’ because the pull has to be intense. This movie has allowed me to contemplate my decisions more profoundly.

In 2015, Mikey made her debut in independent film Liza Liza, The Skies Are Grey, sharing the screen with Madison Iseman. Later, she was selected to play the role of Max in FX’s series Better Things.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement about some remarkable projects I’ve had the privilege to be a part of recently. Stepping into the spotlight, I lent my talents to Monsters, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the chilling 2022 reboot of Scream, and the thrilling All Souls, which premiered in 2023. Each role has been an unforgettable journey, pushing me to grow as an artist while offering captivating stories that resonate with audiences worldwide.

The actress most recently played Judith Weinstein in the Apple TV Plus miniseries Lady in the Lake.
