‘Annoyed’ Denzel Washington nearly walks out of interview due to Mark Wahlberg in unearthed clip

As a film enthusiast with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the recent events at TIFF have left me absolutely enchanted. The premiere of Malcolm Washington’s directorial debut, “The Piano Lesson,” was a truly momentous occasion, made even more special by the rare red carpet appearance of Denzel Washington and his immediate family.

A video from 2013 surfaced that depicted a visibly irritated Denzel Washington considering leaving an interview, triggered by Mark Wahlberg’s overly flirtatious behavior.

About a decade past, the venerable 69-year-old acting icon, who nearly engaged in a scuffle with Josh Brolin, playfully indicated his departure from a media encounter alongside the 53-year-old action star, as they were about to begin an interview with Norwegian journalist Kjersti Flaa.

In another phrasing, Denzel and Mark recently talked about their 2013 action comedy film “Two Guns” during an interview. The interviewer, who is currently 51 years old, recently released a clip from that conversation, looking back on it last month.

In an old video, Kjersti posed a question to Mark regarding the gesture, or “wink thing,” that his character Stig displayed in the Baltasar Kormákur-directed movie. This video was uploaded on YouTube under the title “Mark Wahlberg’s flirt makes Denzel Washington irritated [star emoji] AWKWARD!” (paraphrased)

Mark increased his charisma, giving Kjersti a wink that caused her to break into laughter, responding with a wink of her own.

Denzel joked: ‘She just winked. Man, I’m done. Would this work if one chair was empty?’

After winning the Oscar, he playfully teased that he sometimes felt like the odd one out on a double date, as all the spotlight seemed to be on his co-star instead.

Afterward, Kjersti tried to inquire about Denzel’s Oscars, but when he joked, “No, don’t bother me with questions right now,” was her response.

Towards the conclusion of the interview, Denzel hastily rose from his seat and heartily chuckled after Mark playfully touched the hand of the reporter.

In a YouTube video posted on November 1, Kjersti discussed what really happened in the interview.

She said: ‘It started off kind of ridiculous, and Denzel Washington was getting a little bit annoyed.

As our conversation progressed, I found myself probing with increasingly important questions, but unfortunately, it all seemed to fall apart.

She determined that the interview was over, with everyone in the room chuckling, since they were all engaging in humor and enjoying the spontaneous moment.

Kjersti shared that it was amusing as Washington acted in a playful manner without any malicious intent, but her entire interview took an unexpected turn. She found herself forgetting the questions and losing track of the conversation topic.

In a straightforward and conversational manner, one could say: Denzel Washington continues to trend online due to his captivating interviews. Back in September, he made headlines across the internet with an honest reply to a young admirer who inquired about emulating his ‘gangster’ image.

On the occasion when he went to the first showing of The Last Piano, he was there to back up his sons, both of whom were stars and directors of the movie.

Despite appearing to be hurried toward the screening, he paused to engage in a conversation with Liam, the young reporter from Virgin Radio’s Daryn & Deepa program, as seen in an Instagram video.

The Oscar-winner gave the child the opportunity to ask a question as the youngster queried: ‘Hi, I’m Liam. I’ve heard American Gangster is a good movie. How can I be a Canadian gangster?’

In a swift response, Denzel said, “You’d do better avoiding the gang life. With your intelligence, you’re too good for it. By the way, what’s your favorite academic subject?

After demonstrating his acting prowess, he surmised that his preferred academic areas leaned towards mathematics and science. He then inquired whether the young one aspired to become a physician.

When the young journalist indicated his aspiration to work in the medical field, Denzel replied: “Being a doctor is more beneficial than being a gangster, you know? I wouldn’t want to be a gangster.

Liam has been highlighted on the social platforms of the radio program Daryn & Deepa, broadcast on Virgin Radio at 99.9 FM within the Greater Toronto Area, as well as nationally on iHeartRadio.ca and the iHeartRadio Canada mobile application.

Host Deepa Prashad expressed her emotions upon watching the clip, saying, ‘What a touching scene! It was heartwarming to see all the media backing up little Liam.’

Many spectators found the encounter deeply moving, as one fan expressed, ‘He’ll cherish that moment forever.’

Instead, many reactions playfully pointed out that Denzel made an assumption about the child, who has Asian heritage, enjoying math and science, which some perceive as a stereotype.

One commenter replied: ‘What’s your favorite subject… math and science? I see you Denzel [two rolling on the floor emojis]’

Another said: ‘Why did my guy Denzel assume the Asian kid’s favorite subject was math? [thinking face emoji] But luv him and gonna let Unc slide on this one.’

In the 2007 crime drama “American Gangster,” directed by Ridley Scott, Denzel Washington portrayed Frank Lucas, a powerful drug lord based in New York City.

In the movie, the leading actor shared screen time with well-known talents such as Russell Crowe, Josh Brolin, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ruby Dee, Cuba Gooding Jr., Idris Elba, Common, and Tip Harris (also known as T.I.).

The movie proved to be both a commercial and critical triumph, raking in $269 million at the worldwide box office and receiving two Academy Award nominations in 2008 – one for Best Achievement in Art Direction and another for Best Supporting Actress (posthumously) for Ruby Dee.

At the premiere, where Denzel engaged with Liam, the actor from Training Day unexpectedly graced the red carpet alongside nearly all of his immediate family during TIFF.

Denzel arrived at the gathering accompanied by his wife Pauletta (age 73), along with their sons John David (40 years old) and Malcolm (33 years old), as well as their daughter Katia (37 years of age).

Everyone was present for the first showing of Malcolm’s first directorial effort, “The Piano Lesson,” where John David plays a significant character.

The film was created by Denzel, who has a rich background of bringing August Wilson’s playwriting to life on stage since 1987.

On that particular day, it was just Malcolm’s immediate family members who were photographed on the red carpet, excluding his twin sister, Olivia.

As a lifestyle guide, I’d like to share insights about a captivating stage production that delves into the daily lives of a resilient African-American family nestled in Pittsburgh during the final throes of the Great Depression. This heartrending drama unfolds as tensions simmer and eventually boil over within their household, offering a poignant glimpse into the complexities of family dynamics during challenging times.

At the heart of the dispute lies a piano adorned with intricate carvings, crafted by the grandfather of the family’s matriarch, who was once a slave.

In the film, it’s Samuel L. Jackson who portrays the role of the father. His character is accompanied by John David, who takes on the part of the son, and Danielle Deadwyler, who plays the role of the daughter.

Instead of keeping the piano out of sentimental attachment, the daughter desires to hold onto it. On the other hand, the son prefers to exchange the piano and invest in land that once belonged to their ancestors who were enslaved, a choice reflecting his preference.

Last year, during their 40th wedding anniversary, Denzel and Pauletta radiated the essence of a harmonious union as they graced the red carpet together, looking every bit as happy as newlyweds.
