Anne Hegerty: ‘We Wouldn’t Want a New Chaser on The Chase!’ Here’s Why
Anne Hegerty from “The Chase” has disclosed that, despite the show’s prosperity, she doesn’t have a regular income to depend on.
On the popular ITV program, where she’s famously known as “The Governess,” the TV host, aged 66, openly disclosed an interesting fact: although the quiz show has been highly successful, none of the regular panelists (referred to as ‘the chasers’) receive a fixed salary.
At the TV Choice Awards on Monday, Anne shared with The Mirror that she and her fellow “Chasers” aren’t eager to bring on a new team member just yet, due to one crucial factor.
As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but share my excitement when asked about potential additions to the show in the future. In response, she casually mentioned, ‘We secretly cross our fingers for it not to happen.’
She added: ‘Since we get compensated for each performance, we don’t have a regular salary. That doesn’t mean they’ll increase the budget or create a new position with a salary.’
Translating that into a more casual and friendly tone, we could say: “Adding a new chaser means splitting the same amount of shows among more folks, which equals less cash for all. Here’s hoping we won’t need to do that!

Despite her belief that adding a new chaser might affect her income, Anne made it clear that she bears no resentment towards Darragh Ennis, who joined the program in 2020.
Additionally, Anne mentioned the close bond among the chase team members. She explained that while they are competitive, they maintain a strong friendship and frequently socialize, particularly during filming sessions.
Although The Chase doesn’t provide a set income for Anne, her company, Frosty Knickers Ltd, generated more than £807,000 in sales by August 2023, as reported by The Mirror.
As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but marvel at the staggering wealth amassed by Anne’s firm. Yet, in her humble words, she doesn’t indulge in lavish spending. Instead, she firmly believes that money should be prudently managed, not squandered carelessly.
In my journalistic career, I too have leaned on certain benefits. However, now being part of The Chase, I’ve learned that my past experience with budgeting and living economically is not unfamiliar territory for me.
Nonetheless, Anne occasionally treats herself to some extravagances. She divides her days between residences in Manchester and Watford, which makes working on The Chase more practical for her.
Additionally, she indulges in premium flight options like first-class or business during overseas trips for competitions, and relishes her time at Club Med resorts.
Her presence at the TV Choice Awards follows recent news from TopMob, which disclosed last month that ITV executives plan to capitalize on the program’s popularity by hosting events related to it in various locations nationwide.

During the day, a game show pits competitors against one of six opponents, including Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan, and Darragh Ennis, in an attempt to earn cash prizes.
According to a source, ‘The Chase’ is one of ITV’s most cherished and highly-watched programs, and this format provides an excellent opportunity for ITV to generate substantial funds for their network.
As a dedicated enthusiast, my goal is to create captivating, immersive encounters that cater to the growing demand for unique experiences, serving as engaging alternatives to the traditional night out at the pub.
The Chase airs on ITV weekdays at 5pm.
