More than three years after Anne Heche’s death, her son, Homer Laffoon, has reportedly reached a preliminary agreement with those she owed money to, according to his attorney.
The Emmy-winning actress tragically died in August 2022 at the age of 53. She was injured when the Mini Cooper she was driving crashed into a home in Mar Vista, California.
Anne Heche is survived by her two sons: 23-year-old Homer, from her marriage to Coley Laffoon, and 16-year-old Atlas, whom she shared with James Tupper.
More than three years after the tragic crash, Anne Heche’s estate is facing lawsuits from three different parties. These lawsuits cover both the damage caused by the accident and some unresolved financial matters from when she passed away.
According to US Weekly, Homer has asked the court for six months to finish handling legal and financial issues related to the crash.
According to Homer’s lawyer, the unusual nature of Heche’s death creates a high risk of legal battles.

As a close follower of this case, I understand that Homer’s lawyer explained they needed to spend a significant amount of time looking into the claims against him and trying to reach a settlement. It sounds like they’re hoping this will help things move forward with the administration, whatever that entails.
Homer’s lawyer stated that they’ve reached a preliminary agreement, but it still needs to be approved by the court after it’s been finalized.
As a long-time admirer of Anne Heche, I was relieved to hear from her son’s lawyer that they’re hopeful all the financial issues surrounding her estate can be worked out peacefully, without going to court. It’s good to know they’re approaching things with cautious optimism.
According to court documents, Laffoon stated that three claims were made following the August 2022 crash that resulted in his mother’s death. These claims came from the two homeowners and the resident who was renting the property, as reported by the outlet.
Each party is asking for more than $2 million, the outlet reported, citing legal documents.
Thomas Jane, an actor known for his role in Boogie Nights and a former partner of Anne Heche, stated he lent her $157,000 in the months before she passed away.
Homer explained to the court that Heche continues to earn money from entertainment royalties. However, because of incomplete records, it’s been challenging to properly manage and include those earnings as part of her estate.
Homer’s lawyer stated that he completed the necessary forms with SAG-AFTRA to receive any royalty payments earned by Anne Heche or her companies for her past work in film and television.

More than three years ago, Anne Heche was critically burned in a car crash that caused a fire. Fire department records show she was trapped for about 45 minutes before rescuers could free her.
After the accident, Heche was first taken to the emergency room at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, and then transferred to the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital and Medical Center for further treatment.
Investigators were initially looking into whether Heche had committed a serious crime related to driving under the influence after the crash. However, those legal efforts were dropped after her death.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office concluded that Anne Heche died from injuries sustained in the car crash.
Coroners reported that Anne Heche sustained significant injuries, including burns covering over 10% of her body, a broken sternum, a torn kidney, and damage from smoke inhalation and burns.
After a legal dispute with James Tupper, Homer was appointed to manage Anne Heche’s estate following her sudden death.
Heche had won a Daytime Emmy award for her work on the soap opera Another World.
She starred in several popular movies in the late 1990s, such as Donnie Brasco, Wag the Dog, Six Days Seven Nights, and Psycho.

Anne Heche became well-known for her relationship with Ellen DeGeneres, which lasted from 1997 to 2000. She later stated that this romance negatively affected her career in Hollywood.
Heche did not appear to be on good terms with DeGeneres in the years before her death.
In a June 2021 podcast interview, she revealed she’d cautioned Portia DeRossi – a former colleague from the TV show Ally McBeal – about getting involved with Ellen DeGeneres, believing it wouldn’t end well.
After Anne Heche’s passing, Ellen DeGeneres shared a message on social media expressing her sadness and sending love to Heche’s children, family, and friends.
