Anne Hathaway stuns fans as she reveals secret health battle she endured for 10 YEARS

Anne Hathaway recently revealed she quietly suffered a scary health battle for 10 years.

The 43-year-old actress recently spoke about rumors she’d had a facelift, and revealed she was legally blind for ten years because of cataracts that developed early in life.

According to Mayo Clinic, a cataract happens when the lens of your eye becomes cloudy. Thankfully, it can be fixed with surgery. Symptoms include mildly blurry vision, colors appearing faded, and increased sensitivity to bright lights.

‘It impacted my vision so much that I was basically legally blind out of my left eye and I wound up getting surgery,’ Hathaway divulged on the New York Times show Popcast in April.

I remember telling Jon Caramanica and Joe Coscarelli that it really hit me how much things had deteriorated only when I was able to see the whole picture, the complete range of what was happening. It was like everything finally clicked into focus.

Last week, fans on X were stunned to learn from a podcast interview that Anne Hathaway had been legally blind in one eye for a decade. One user expressed their surprise, saying, ‘Anne Hathaway just casually mentioned she was legally blind in her left eye for 10 years on a podcast with a relatively small audience! How did we not know?’

Someone noted how impressive it was that she worked on big films for a decade without ever mentioning or exploiting the issue – truly legendary professionalism.

Someone else commented, shocked, about how many films she made in those ten years without ever talking about them.

Hathaway shared that she’s grateful for her vision, explaining that simply being able to see each day feels like a gift.

The famous actress admitted that just a generation or two ago, the surgery that saved her eyesight wouldn’t have been available to someone in her situation.

While promoting her new film, Mother Mary – where she stars as the main character, a famous pop star – she made an appearance on the Popcast podcast.

The movie centers around Mary reconnecting with her old best friend, Sam Anselm—who used to design her costumes—right before she makes her return to performing.

The film also features Michaela Coel, Hunter Schafer, Kaia Gerber, Atheena Frizzell, Jessica Brown Findlay, FKA Twigs, and Alba Baptista.

Anne Hathaway shared with Stephen Colbert that Taylor Swift influenced the project, because the director, David Lowry, is a devoted fan of hers.

She described feeling like the woman was a guardian angel, always watching over them, in an interview earlier this year.

‘And I was influenced by her tour film Miss Americana and how vulnerable she just let herself be.’

The longtime entertainer has a total of five films hitting theaters this year. 

Following Mother Mary’s release on April 24, The Devil Wears Prada 2 hit theaters on May 1 and was met with enormous box office success.

Hathaway will also appear in The Odyssey, The End of Oak Street, and Verity.

Last month the actress was named the Most Beautiful Woman in the World by People magazine.
