Anne Hathaway breaks silence on epic tumble by posting even nastier spill from iconic film

In a typical display of wit, Anne Hathaway playfully demonstrated her unique humor following an exceptional fall during the shooting of the eagerly awaited sequel to The Devil Wears Prada.

On a chilly Wednesday in New York City, the Oscar-winning actress, aged 42, was caught on camera after she stumbled on the steps of a building, her left leg bending strangely as she fell.

Initially, spectators were unsure whether it was a pre-planned prank or an actual accident, but Hathaway appeared to verify the latter by posting the incident on Instagram the following day – accompanied with an old video clip of another well-known blunder.

The video depicts a scene from the popular movie The Princess Diaries, released in 2001, where Anne Hathaway’s character fell off the tall school stadium seats (bleachers).

It turns out that the scene where someone fell wasn’t planned, yet Director Garry Marshall enjoyed it so much that he chose to include it in the film.

Twenty years down the line, Hathaway demonstrated that she could tumble and laugh it off just as charmingly as anyone else, as her caption read, ‘Twenty years later, still smitten by you.’

During a 2020 tribute honoring the late director Marshall, who sadly passed away in 2016 at the age of 81, the renowned actress also shared her thoughts about a challenging moment from The Princess Diaries.

Hathaway shared that Marshall often preferred incorporating spontaneous or fortuitous scenes in his movies. He recounted an instance where an unexpected act with costar Heather Matarazzo made it into the trailer for The Princess Diaries.

The shot was taken on the bleachers of a sports field at a university in San Francisco, following rain-induced delays. Amidst the haste, the team raced against time to wrap up filming before the sun set.

Marshall asked Hathaway and Matarazzo to position themselves at various tiers of the stands and stroll past one another as they spoke their dialogues.

As Heather seemed particularly energetic, she moved more quickly than expected, and thus, I made a timing mistake. This is how Hathaway remembered it.

As it turned out, our paths converged, causing me to quickly adjust my direction. Unfortunately, in doing so, I accidentally slipped on a puddle and tumbled down. To be honest, I tripped and fell quite dramatically, but the absurdity of the situation made me break into laughter. Despite the unexpected incident, I continued with the scene.

Hathaway remarked, “I hadn’t given it another thought, and then, around six months later, it appeared in the preview.

‘He kept it. He kept it because it was a charming moment,’ she explained.

Meanwhile, Hathaway isn’t the only familiar face returning to the Devil Wears Prada universe.

Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt were recently seen shooting movie sequences in New York City, rekindling the enchantment that captivated viewers during the original production.

New additions to the cast are also turning heads.

In the new production, Kenneth Branagh takes on the role of Miranda’s new spouse, whereas the charming Australian actor, Patrick Brammall, is brought in to portray Andy’s newest love interest.

Kenneth Branagh is cast as Miranda’s new husband, while Patrick Brammall has been selected to play Andy’s latest romantic partner.

Last week, Hathaway and Brammall were seen capturing some heartwarming scenes while walking along bustling Brooklyn streets as the sun dipped below the horizon.

Once, the actor wrapped his arms around the woman in a warm hug, both of them standing just outside a restaurant.

Hathaway also flashed a big smile on her face as Brammall twirled her around in circles.

In the 2006 film, Adrian Grenier portrayed Nate, the character’s boyfriend. However, it’s worth mentioning that he won’t be reprising his role in the sequel.

Grenier’s character has sparked debate among fans, with certain individuals criticizing him for allegedly being unhelpful during his partner’s journalistic endeavors.

In 2021, during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Connolly (the actor from Entourage) spoke about his part in the initial movie.

Initially, I failed to grasp the subtleties and deeper meaning of the character’s portrayal in the movie. It wasn’t until the public began criticizing the character harshly that I noticed these aspects myself, and as a result, I faced criticism too.

He remarked that the memes generated from the movie took him aback, given that viewers labeled Nate as the main antagonist of the film.

I didn’t realize this until I gave it some serious thought, and maybe it was because I was as naive as Nate was back then. In many aspects, he can be quite self-centered and self-absorbed.

Adrian went on to say that it was primarily about him, as he didn’t make an effort to assist Andy with her professional growth.

It’s been noticed that Timothée Chalamet’s sister Pauline, as well as The Office actor BJ Novak, were spotted on the same filming location, along with renowned YouTuber Amelia Dimoldenberg who is famous for her show “Chicken Shop Date”.

In the upcoming sequel, it’s David Frankel himself who will be back in the director’s chair, just like he was for the original film released in 2006.

The movie ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ was well-received by critics and grossed approximately $326.7 million at the box office, which is significantly more than its production cost that ranged between $35 to $41 million.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d say: Not only did the film gain significant recognition, but it earned two Oscar nominations, notably one for Best Actress, graciously bestowed upon the exceptional Meryl Streep. Additionally, it garnered five BAFTA nods and three Golden Globe mentions, with Meryl triumphantly taking home the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.

While Lauren Weisberger wrote another book titled “Revenge Wears Prada,” it appears that the forthcoming film will deviate from the book’s plotline.

The movie depicts Miranda adapting to the evolving landscape of Runway, as traditional print publications transition into a digital era.
