Anna Maxwell Martin’s “brilliant” Downton Abbey parody is finally available to watch in the UK

You can now watch Fackham Hall in the UK! This funny show, starring Anna Maxwell Martin and Damian Lewis, playfully spoofs historical dramas like Downton Abbey and has been getting good reviews.

The movie, co-written by comedian Jimmy Carr, centers on Eric Noone (Ben Radcliffe), a pickpocket who cleverly talks his way into Davenport Estate, a property that’s been in the Davenport family for generations.

Eric successfully infiltrates upper-class society and falls for Rose, but she’s already engaged to Archibald, a marriage arranged to preserve the family’s prestigious reputation.

The new film, Fackham Hall, starring Martin as Mrs. McAllister and Lewis as Lord Humphrey Davenport, premiered in the US last week and is now available in UK cinemas.

The comedy film is directed by Jim O’Hanlon and features a strong supporting cast, including Katherine Waterston, Emma Laird, Sue Johnston, Lizzie Hopley, and comedian Jimmy Carr, who plays the role of the town’s vicar.

I’ve seen a lot of parodies that just don’t quite land, but Fackham Hall is actually really good! I checked IMDb, and it has a solid 6.7 out of 10 rating based on over 500 reviews, which is pretty impressive for this kind of movie.

One viewer described the film as “brilliant” and said seeing it in a lively, packed theater in New York City was the perfect way to enjoy it. They and others in the audience laughed throughout the entire movie.

One viewer said the comedy hit all the right notes, packed with jokes. While not every joke landed, they found plenty to laugh at, and even hours later were still smiling about a few of them.

Another viewer described the film as “ridiculously fun,” saying it’s exactly the kind of entertainment audiences want and the film industry needs. They highlighted its blend of dry British wit and American slapstick comedy.

The spoof has been well-received by both viewers and critics. Currently, 86% of professional reviews on Rotten Tomatoes give it a positive rating, based on 37 reviews.

Fackham Hall is now playing in cinemas.
