Anticipation for the second season of Ludwig has been high, yet we’ve been patiently waiting nearly a year now for any fresh tidbits about our beloved cozy crime show that’s winning everyone over.

Filming has officially begun on the latest installment of the popular murder mystery show, with David Mitchell and Anna Maxwell Martin set to star.

I’m excited to say that the duo, Ludwig ‘John’ Taylor and his in-law Lucy, are making a comeback! And this time, they’ve got some fresh faces joining them: Mark Bonnar, Sian Clifford, Ben Ashenden, and Rumi Sutton. Can’t wait to dive back into the game with this new lineup!

Bonnar and Clifford are coming back to work together again, this time in a new production where Bonnar portrays Gareth Fisher, a newspaper editor, and Clifford takes on the role of local MP Joanne Kemper. Following the conclusion of the first series, John is no longer required to masquerade as his long-lost twin brother James.

Currently, John serves as a Crime Scene Consultant in an official capacity, specializing in cases that appear unsolvable. However, it’s important to note that he is prohibited from utilizing any police resources to locate his missing brother, James, or to delve into the specific investigation James was conducting when he vanished.

Certainly, John and Lucy will persist in unraveling the puzzle surrounding James’ disappearance. Although John may have stopped impersonating James, he continues to live a dual existence with his secretive lifestyle remaining intact.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the mastermind behind our beloved series, Mark Brotherhood, has once more penned down the script for the next season. The opening trio is brilliantly directed by George Kane, while Stella Corradi skillfully handles the final three episodes to bring this amazing tale to its conclusion.

In 2024, the initial installment of “Ludwig” became the BBC’s most popular scripted program of the year and marked the largest debut for a comedy since 2018, as over 9.5 million viewers eagerly tuned in to catch the first episode.

In the early part of the year, Mitchell looked back at the remarkable triumph of the initial series, expressing that he had never before connected with an audience as swiftly as he did with this particular project.

He mentioned that there are achievements he’s extremely proud of, but it seemed as if sharing them was similar to broadcasting a show from the ’80s – before long, everyone appeared to be aware.

The writing is excellent, and such a program type seems popular. I believe the BBC did an outstanding job in promoting it, scheduling it during a season when audiences were eager to watch such shows. Here’s hoping it delivered a quality experience reminiscent of its genre.
