Anna Friel and Christopher Eccleston team up for new British movie
Hear Me Roar, an upcoming British movie, will spotlight a landmark trans marriage ruling.
Under the direction of Amy Coop, the movie features actors Anna Friel, Christopher Eccleston, and Emma Thompson. According to Deadline, they will be joining lead actress Rebecca Root in this production.
The movie is inspired by the real-life story of Elizabeth Bellinger, played by Root.
In the 1980s, Bellinger was among the early individuals to marry as a transgender person in the United Kingdom. She largely hid her wedding from public knowledge until 2000, at which point she began advocating for the legal recognition of her marriage to Michael Bellinger, which had taken place years earlier.
Subsequently, the matter was taken to the court, where Bellinger was represented by barrister Ashley Bayston – a collaborator on the film script with Lisa McMullin.
In the upcoming film, Thompson has been assigned the role of the judge, with Elizabeth Butler-Sloss being depicted by Friel, and Eccleston taking on the part of her husband. The cast is completed by Julian Ovenden, who gained fame from “Bridgerton”.
Thompson expressed that the film was incredibly touching, amusing, and impactful, causing him to shed tears like a newborn. He found the narrative and dialogue exceptional, with captivating characters he deeply admired. In his opinion, it was not only intriguing but also profoundly significant and indispensable.
As a gamer, I feel blessed to collaborate with such an amazing team, crafting a tale that sheds light on an often-overlooked chapter of contemporary British history – a momentous event that reshaped the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals forever.
The film doesn’t currently have a release date.
Next up, Eccleston is scheduled to appear in the Cold War biopic “Whispers of Freedom,” directed by Brandon Ashplant.
In the 1980s, East Berlin serves as the backdrop for “Whispers of Freedom,” a film inspired by real events. The protagonist, Chris Gueffroy, portrayed by Cameron Ashplant, is the last individual shot and one of the final two to perish while attempting an escape to the West over the Berlin Wall.
As a dedicated gamer, I’m excited to share that the beloved Doctor Who actor is lending his voice to the game! He will be portraying East German radio personality Herbert Köfer in an exceptional manner. Alongside him, we have Thomas W. Gabrielsson, Wendy Makkena, Darragh Cowley, and Paul Freeman joining the cast. Can’t wait to see these talents bring the game to life!
