As a long-time fan of Heart and having followed Ann Wilson’s illustrious career for decades, I’m deeply saddened to hear about her cancer diagnosis and the postponement of the Royal Flush Tour. Her announcement on Instagram brought back memories of the first time I saw them live in the 1980s, their electric energy and powerful performances leaving an indelible mark on me.
Due to her battle with cancer, Ann Wilson, the prominent vocalist of rock group Heart, has decided to take a break from the Royal Flush Tour for the rest of the year in order to prioritize her health and healing process.
Wilson, 74, took to Instagram on Tuesday in a touching post to update her fans about her health and the unfortunate need to postpone her tour. She revealed that she had undergone an operation to take out a cancerous growth, which went well, but her doctors now recommended chemotherapy as a preventative measure. Feeling good after the surgery, she has decided to comply with their advice.
The Royal Flush Tour, with over 50 concerts planned in the USA and Canada, has been postponed to the year 2025. Heart was scheduled to perform, along with Def Leppard and Journey. However, it’s undecided if these bands will participate in the tour’s new dates.
To those who bought tickets, I deeply regret not being able to perform for you now. Rest assured, my intention is to return to the stage in 2025. Your existing tickets will still be valid for the rescheduled dates.
As a film enthusiast, I’d recount my fascination with Heart’s music journey, which began decades ago alongside their legendary sisters Nancy Wilson in the vibrant city of Seattle. Our story gained momentum when we had the privilege of opening for Rod Stewart at Montreal’s iconic venue in 1975. The media took notice of our all-female band, a novelty back then.
In 2023, the Recording Academy honored Rock & Roll Hall of Famers with a lifetime achievement award in recognition of their significant impact on the world of rock music.
As a devoted cinemagoer, I was eagerly anticipating Heart’s European tour in May. Sadly, I received the disappointing news that the tour had to be cancelled due to a routine but time-sensitive medical procedure undergone by Ann Wilson. We fans were left waiting with bated breath for six long weeks until she would be back on stage, performing the music we love.
“This is merely a pause. I’ve much more to sing,” Wilson wrote Tuesday.
