Anita Dobson reveals surprise way she tuned into Billie Piper’s shock reveal in Doctor Who finale as she reflects on ‘riotous’ reaction to Mrs Flood twist
She’s become a huge fan favourite with her mysterious role as Mrs Flood.
Meanwhile, at the Soap Awards on a Saturday night when the final episode of Doctor Who aired, Anita Dobson shared that she intended to watch the highly anticipated episode despite attending the event.
76-year-old actress from EastEnders attended the dazzling red carpet event at London’s Hackney Town Hall alongside her fellow stars, mere hours before the series finale was aired on television on Saturday.
At the red carpet event, TopMob got a chance to chat with Anita, who mentioned that she and her co-star Gillian Taylforth were intending to catch up on the finale using their mobile phones before the ceremony began.
Anita’s portrayal of the enigmatic Mrs. Flood, eventually unveiled as a secret manifestation of the infamous antagonist The Rani, has sparked quite a commotion among “Doctor Who” enthusiasts.

In a fascinating turn of events, I found myself in a situation not unlike the whirlwind when dear old Mrs. Flood flashed her secretive wink directly at the camera – a moment that sent shockwaves through the crowd! However, revealing my true identity wasn’t quite as chaotic or unexpected as that unforgettable incident.
‘That didn’t, because a lot of people are thinking ”where is she going to go from here?”
As a devoted fan, I was thrilled by the exhilarating finale of Doctor Who, where Ncuti Gatwa gracefully said goodbye to his portrayal of the Time Lord. In a shocking turn of events, Billie Piper was revealed to be the new embodiment of our beloved Doctor.
Additionally, spectators were privy to Anita’s portrayal of The Rani’s destiny remaining unclear, as she chose to elude the fury of the malevolent Time Lord Omega, following his consumption of the primary character played by Archie Panjabi.
In simpler terms, After the Doctor Who finale, Adam Woodyatt, one of Anita’s co-stars, shared on Instagram that they had watched it on her phone. He also mentioned that during the show, she ignored several calls from her husband Brian May to keep interruptions at bay.
He titled his post as follows: “The most memorable moment for me at the #britishsoapawards didn’t involve @bbceastenders taking the prize; instead, it was something rather unique.
I sat on the steps of Hackney Town Hall, beside Anita, also known as Mrs. Flood or The Rani, as we enjoyed listening to BBC Doctor Who together on my phone, using my AirPods!
‘We were so engrossed, @brianmayforreal called twice and Anita bumped the calls.

‘If only we had a picture of ourselves sitting there, enjoying the view together, but alas, I’ll forever cherish that memory instead.’
At the glamorous Soap Awards, Anita attended and subsequently received the honor for the Best Scene of the Year. This recognition came after Angie Watts’ surprising comeback in the series during its 40th anniversary specials that aired in February.
Notable talents from the world of serial dramas are expected to grace the event, set to air on ITV on June 5th.
On the awards night, EastEnders from the BBC took home eight awards, Hollyoaks got three, Emmerdale earned two, and Coronation Street secured just one.
They kicked off their wins with Best Episode which went to Phil’s Psychosis: The Mitchells In 1985.
