Angie Best is staying home and avoiding public appearances because she’s experiencing an acne breakout as a side effect of her cancer treatment.
Fans were shocked to learn that the former wife of soccer star George Best and mother of reality TV star Calum Best is fighting colon cancer.
After her diagnosis, 73-year-old Angie went to Switzerland to try a unique cancer treatment called mistletoe therapy, which involves using extracts from the European mistletoe plant.
Angie shared a video on Facebook explaining she’s currently dealing with a bad acne breakout, plus swollen lips and painful sores in her mouth.
Chemotherapy treatments can sometimes cause breakouts or rashes that look like acne. Similarly, targeted therapies may make your skin itchy and more easily irritated.
Okay, so Angie posted a video and honestly, it broke my heart. She was talking about all these new spots she’s getting, which is terrifying, and on top of that, the chemo is just making her feel absolutely awful – she said it makes her feel like total garbage all the time! And it’s not just the exhaustion, she’s also dealing with ulcers and everything else. It’s just… so much. I’m seriously worried about her.
It’s really disheartening when you look in the mirror and don’t recognize your skin. I’m not going to pretend I don’t care about my appearance – we all care about how we look, and that’s okay! It’s natural to want to feel good about yourself, and I’m not apologizing for wanting that.
‘I won’t go out in public, I don’t want anyone to see me looking like twenty miles of bad road.’
Angie’s doctor recently told her that her treatment is working and has significantly reduced the cancer.
I saw my oncologist yesterday, and she gave me fantastic news! She said I’ve responded really well to the treatment, and after just four sessions, 80% of the cancer is gone – which is incredible.
I was really happy with the progress, but the therapist said I needed four more sessions. It didn’t make sense to me – if four sessions already fixed eighty percent of the problem, why would I need another four? I suggested we try just two, and he agreed.
She explained she’d been imagining a perfect scenario: walking into the doctor’s office and hearing, “Ange, it’s all gone, you’re cancer-free.” She’d held onto that hope for a week, but then she’d look in the mirror and realize it wasn’t true.
She expressed gratitude to her followers, saying their support meant a lot to her and that she loved them. She apologized for complaining, explaining she was just feeling down.
In February, Angie shared that she was having trouble gaining weight, explaining that her healthy diet wasn’t providing enough calories for weight gain.
‘I’m having my mistletoe treatment today. I have to say, this being sick, it’s a very humbling experience,’ she said.
It’s really shaken my confidence and made me question everything. I’m focused on eating well to gain weight – I currently weigh only 46 kilograms, and I need to be stronger for the next two rounds of chemotherapy, so putting on weight is important.
It’s frustrating because I’m trying to eat well, but now I have to have something that isn’t as healthy. I’m sure I’ll figure something out, though.
She explained in the video’s caption that she was trying mistletoe therapy, which she believes boosts the immune system and helps reduce common chemotherapy and radiation side effects like pain, nausea, and tiredness.
Angie’s son Callum commented on the video and wrote: ‘I love you’.
Mistletoe therapy is a cancer treatment used as an alternative to conventional methods, and it’s been practiced in Europe – especially Germany, Switzerland, and Austria – for many years.
Some people think it can boost the immune system and help cancer patients feel better, but doctors don’t all agree on whether it actually works.
The NHS doesn’t currently offer this as a standard cancer treatment because major UK cancer organizations haven’t found enough solid proof that it reliably cures the disease.
It can be used alongside chemotherapy, which is what Angie is doing.
I was so heartbroken to learn about Angie’s illness. Her son, Calum – you might remember him from Celebrity Big Brother – shared the news in a really moving video online back in January. It was just devastating to hear.
In a recent video, the star shared some heartbreaking news: her mother was recently diagnosed with cancer. She explained that her mum has always prioritized her health and wellbeing, living a very active and fit lifestyle.
She’s always prioritized her overall well-being – taking care of her physical health, mental state, and spiritual side. However, cancer can affect anyone, regardless of their lifestyle.
It doesn’t discriminate based on background, lifestyle, or health efforts. And now, it’s arrived – my mum has it.
Calum said he hasn’t cried for years, but he’s been experiencing a lot of ups and downs emotionally since his mother was diagnosed with an illness.
‘My mum has been diagnosed with colon cancer that has spread to her liver,’ he explained.
To make progress, we require specialized medical attention and experts who can provide the necessary care. It’s difficult to admit, but I simply can’t afford to continue covering these costs by myself.
The reality star created a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for his mother’s specialized medical care. He explained that even a small donation would make a difference in getting her the treatment and care she needs.
