Angelina Jolie’s forgotten crime drama is now available to watch on Prime Video

As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of films that have come and gone, some leaving a lasting impact while others are quickly forgotten. Hell’s Kitchen, starring Angelina Jolie, is one such movie that fell into the latter category, grossing an almost laughable sum at the box office back in 1998.

25 years post its initial airing, the long-forgotten crime drama titled “Hell’s Kitchen,” featuring Angelina Jolie, has now found a new home on Amazon Prime Video.

1998’s movie centers around Johnny (Mekhi Phifer), a man who used to be part of a gang and spent time in prison. Upon his release, Johnny seeks redemption and turns to Lou (William Forsythe) for guidance as he learns the art of boxing. Along the way, he reconnects with his old flame Gloria (Jolie).

Additionally featuring Rosanna Arquette and Johnny Whitworth, the movie initially struggled to make an impact following its release, earning just $22,513 at the box office. However, fans of Angelina Jolie can now enjoy the film as it has been added to the Amazon Prime Video streaming service.

Although “Hell’s Kitchen” is a part of Jolie’s past, the actor will soon appear in “Maria,” Pablo Larrain’s biopic about opera singer Maria Callas. After receiving positive feedback during its premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, Netflix plans to release the movie in the US on December 11.

In her own words, Jolie stated, “I dedicated nearly seven months to preparing for the role because with Pablo, there’s no compromise. He encourages, in a marvelous manner, full commitment to the work and learning process through training.

Recalling how jittery she was during her initial performance, she commended Pablo for his foresight in guiding her journey from a humble room to the grand stage of La Scala, expressing gratitude by saying “he allowed me the opportunity to blossom”.

In his words, “It’s a creative exploration and psychological depiction of Maria Callas. Having spent her life entertaining audiences globally, she ultimately chooses to discover her unique voice, identity, and sing for herself.” Larrain, who directed both ‘Jackie’ and ‘Spencer’, made this statement.

Maria will be released on December 11 on Netflix US, and on January 10 in UK cinemas.
