Angelina Jolie travels to the Egypt-Gaza border to visit injured Palestinians and humanitarian workers ferrying aid

Angelina Jolie visited the Egypt-Gaza border to meet with Palestinians who were injured and the people delivering humanitarian aid to them.

The Hollywood star, 50, is former special envoy and goodwill ambassador for the UN refugee agency.

On Friday, she traveled to Egypt to see the Rafah border crossing, the link between Egypt and Gaza. There, she talked with Red Crescent workers and the drivers delivering essential aid.

Reports say Jolie visited Palestinians who were hurt in Gaza and are now receiving medical care in Egypt.

She reportedly visited the area to oversee the delivery of aid and spoke with local news outlets at the border.

This visit follows her trip to Kherson, Ukraine, two months ago, where she was said to be providing humanitarian aid.

Since 2022, the city of Kherson has been heavily targeted by Russian forces. Actress Angelina Jolie recently visited several hospitals there, including maternity and children’s wards, to highlight the impact of the conflict on ordinary civilians.

Vitaliy Bohdanov, a former city council member, posted pictures of Jolie wearing a protective vest with the logo of the Legacy of War Foundation, a charity that helps people impacted by the conflict.

A local news source shared photos of Jolie playing with kids in a playroom filled with toys, and she was wearing protective equipment.

Daily Mail has not received a response to its request for comment from reps for Jolie.  

Russian forces are consistently attacking Kherson, and a recent strike on October 29th injured nine people at a children’s hospital. This demonstrates the dangerous environment Angelina Jolie encountered while visiting the area.

From 2001 to 2022, Angelina Jolie worked with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), first as a Goodwill Ambassador and later as a Special Envoy. During this time, she traveled the world on over 60 missions to help refugees and families forced to leave their homes.

She left her position to dedicate herself to wider humanitarian and human rights work, but she has continued to return to Ukraine on several occasions.

In 2022, she visited Lviv, meeting children injured in the Kramatorsk train station missile strike. 

She talked to families who had been forced to leave their homes, meeting them at the city’s train station where they were sheltering from air raid sirens.

The Malificent star also paid a visit to Ukrainian child refugees in Rome that same year.  

I was so moved when I learned she visited Ukrainian child refugees at the Bambino Gesu hospital in Rome, just near Vatican City. It meant so much to see her take the time to connect with them personally.

She encountered Ukrainian children who had come to Italy as refugees, escaping the war in Ukraine.

Over two million children have been forced to leave Ukraine since Russia began its full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, according to UNICEF. In addition, another 2.5 million people are displaced within the country itself.

In February 2022, Jolie spoke about the war in Ukraine in a post to her Instagram followers.

She wrote: ‘Like many of you, I’m praying for the people in Ukraine.

My team at UNHCR and I are dedicated to protecting the rights and well-being of displaced people and refugees in the area, and making sure they receive essential support.

‘We have already seen reports of casualties and people starting to flee their homes to seek safety.

It’s still unclear what the future holds, but this is a profoundly important moment, both for Ukrainians and for the principles of international law.

Jolie’s decades-long humanitarian work earned her a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 2013.
