Angelina Jolie ‘ready’ to move abroad after her kids turn 18… after revealing she ‘doesn’t recognize’ America

She has made no secret of her intention to move abroad once her children turn 18.

A recent report provides more details about where Angelina Jolie plans to move after leaving Los Angeles.

A recent article in Us Weekly details Angelina Jolie’s plans to move, with a source saying she’s likely to live in places that are important to her children.

Angelina Jolie is now officially divorced after a long legal battle with Brad Pitt, which concluded late last year. A source close to her says she seems happier and more relaxed, and while she’ll always have a connection to Los Angeles, she’s ready to start a new phase of her life.

A second insider added: ‘She’s very excited for this next phase of her life.’   

According to the second source, Jolie plans to move in July, shortly after her twins, Knox and Vivienne, turn eighteen. She’s likely to split her time between the US and Cambodia, where she adopted her son Maddox in 2002 and also owns a home.

Jolie is also expected to work in France and Africa, places that are personally meaningful to her.

She had her twins in Nice, France. She later adopted her daughter Zahara from Ethiopia and gave birth to Shiloh while in Namibia.

She cherishes these locations, as she has close friends in each one who she trusts like family.

The report was released after Angelina Jolie expressed feeling alienated from the United States. She shared her concerns as an artist and American citizen, stemming from the recent controversy involving Jimmy Kimmel’s show, which temporarily stopped airing due to comments made about the accused attacker of Charlie Kirk.

Jimmy Kimmel pointed out that supporters of Donald Trump, often called the ‘MAGA Gang,’ are working hard to distance themselves from the person who allegedly attacked Charlie Kirk, and are trying to use the incident to their political advantage. He noted this happened while people were also mourning the situation.

Brendan Carr, the head of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) appointed by former President Trump, criticized Jimmy Kimmel for what he called false and damaging statements about the late founder of Turning Point USA. Carr indicated that ABC, Kimmel’s network, could face repercussions if it didn’t address the issue, and suggested the FCC might examine whether ABC is fulfilling its obligations to serve the public interest.

Following the recent scandal, Angelina addressed reporters at the San Sebastian Film Festival, sharing her thoughts as both an artist and a citizen of the United States.

“It’s a really tough question,” Angelina told Variety. “I love America, but right now, it feels very different from the country I know.”

Having grown up living abroad with an international family and circle of friends, I naturally see the world as interconnected and unified. I believe anything that restricts individual expression or freedom is a serious threat. We’re facing incredibly challenging times, so it’s crucial to be mindful of the things we say and do, as the stakes are very high for everyone.

Jolie has also previously denounced Trump’s policies during his first administration.

In a New York Times opinion piece, she argued that we should never sacrifice our principles in the name of increased security.

Jolie and her ex-husband, Brad Pitt, have six children together: Maddox, 24, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, and 17-year-old twins, Knox and Vivienne. Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in 2016.

Following her separation, Angelina bought a historic home in Los Feliz that once belonged to the famous director Cecil B. DeMille. The property is conveniently located near her father’s residence.

She explained to Harper’s Bazaar in 2019 that she wanted her children to maintain a close relationship with their father, who lives just five minutes away.

She’s eager to move overseas and plans to do so once her children turn eighteen. Currently, she’s prioritizing living wherever her children’s father decides is best for the family.

According to a source, Angelina Jolie is considering moving overseas and plans to sell her current home when her youngest children reach adulthood.

Angelina Jolie didn’t initially want to live in Los Angeles permanently, but she was required to due to the terms of her custody agreement with Brad Pitt, according to a source who spoke with People magazine. They finalized their contentious divorce in December 2024 after eight years of legal proceedings.

‘She’ll be very happy when she’s able to leave Los Angeles,’ the insider added.

Jolie has talked about wanting to move away from Los Angeles in 2024, but explained she needs to stay in California until all six of her and Pitt’s children are adults.

She told The Hollywood Reporter that she was raised in Los Angeles and is currently staying due to a divorce settlement. However, she plans to move away as soon as her children turn eighteen.

She explained that with a large family, it’s important to provide privacy, peace, and security. While she now has a home where she’s raising her children, she sometimes feels a disconnect – the kindness and connection she experienced traveling the world isn’t always present in her everyday life here.

Once her two youngest children turn eighteen, Jolie intends to spend a significant amount of time in Cambodia and visit family members around the globe.

Angelina Jolie is the latest Hollywood celebrity to move away from Los Angeles, following others like Natalie Portman, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Longoria, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, Sophie Turner, and Rosie O’Donnell.

She’s still very busy with her successful acting career, which has recently shifted from movies and television in Hollywood to performing on Broadway.

She helped produce the show *The Outsiders*, which is inspired by both S.E. Hinton’s 1967 novel and Francis Ford Coppola’s 1983 film of the same name, a classic coming-of-age crime story.

Last year it won numerous Tony Awards –   including Best Musical.

Jolie discussed how the musical’s story has connected with people globally, sharing her thoughts with director Danya Taymor.

She explained in a video obtained by People that someone called the story “uniquely American,” but she was surprised by how many people around the world connected with it.

Everyone, no matter where they live, experiences challenges that test their communities and sense of belonging. These difficulties often arise from social divisions – like differences in background or social class – that can create feelings of separation and make people question their place in the world.
